ADNOC: industry on the ground
ADNOC Gas Processing, established in 1975 as GASCO, runs the largest gas processing complex in Abu Dhabi, with 26 processing trains and over 3,000 kilometres of pipeline.
ADNOC Refining operates the Ruwais and Abu Dhabi refineries, and a 10 billion dollar expansion of the Ruwais refinery completed in 2015 doubled its capacity. Its website quotes oil production capacity of 4.85 million barrels a day, and its group companies run large onshore and offshore sites. This page explains what to look for in an IECEx mobile phone for ADNOC, and where the IS-04Z1 stands against that list today.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for ADNOC: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in United Arab Emirates. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The main sites and the hazardous-area types a portable device is likely to meet at this organisation.
ADNOC's website links suppliers to the ADNOC Supplier Hub, which has a supplier registration service and an In-Country Value (ICV) programme section; the page content could not be read in full, so confirm current requirements with the relevant group company. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
ADNOC Gas Processing, established in 1975 as GASCO, runs the largest gas processing complex in Abu Dhabi, with 26 processing trains and over 3,000 kilometres of pipeline.
ADNOC LNG processes and loads liquefied gas at Das Island, with exports going mainly to East Asia and especially Japan, so jetties and island logistics are part of the operation.
In May 2026 ADNOC announced it would accelerate its West-East Pipeline project, doubling oil export capacity through the port of Fujairah, with the expanded line expected to operate by 2027.
ADNOC Drilling, formerly National Drilling Company, is ADNOC's oldest subsidiary and the largest drilling company in the Middle East, drilling both onshore and offshore in Abu Dhabi.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In ADNOC. ADNOC works with many international operators and contractors across Ruwais, Das Island and Umm Al Nar. IECEx is a familiar reference for them. A reviewer should read the certificate of conformity with the schedule of conditions. The IS-04Z1 is designed for IECEx, and certification is in progress.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.

Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
ADNOC has 16 subsidiary companies, such as the drilling, gas and refining businesses, and each may apply its own supplier process, site rules and approvals alongside any group requirements. Confirm the current registration route and any company-specific equipment requirements with the relevant procurement and HSE teams.
No. Ruwais hosts ADNOC refining, Borouge's polyolefin plants and other companies, each running its own units and access rules inside the industrial complex. Confirm which company controls the unit you will enter, because induction, permits and equipment approvals are set by that operator.
Only if the final certificate, gas group and temperature class suit the area and the operating company permits it. The IS-04Z1 is designed for intrinsically safe handheld use with IP68 protection, but no certificate has been issued. Island and offshore logistics and charging need planning too.
