ADNOC: background
ADNOC was founded in 1971 and now has 16 subsidiary companies across upstream, midstream and downstream activities, so site practice can differ from one group company to another.
ADNOC Industrial Gas, founded in 2007 with Linde, makes industrial gases used by the oil, gas and petrochemical industries and works closely with gas processing. Its website quotes oil production capacity of 4.85 million barrels a day, and its group companies run large onshore and offshore sites. This page sets out how an explosion proof mobile phone supply route to ADNOC will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An explosion proof mobile phone for ADNOC cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in United Arab Emirates. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Where it operates and the kinds of classified area a handset would meet there.
ADNOC's website links suppliers to the ADNOC Supplier Hub, which has a supplier registration service and an In-Country Value (ICV) programme section; the page content could not be read in full, so confirm current requirements with the relevant group company. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.

A joint venture between ADNOC (60 per cent) and ADQ (40 per cent) was launched in 2020 to invest in chemicals projects in the planned Ruwais Derivatives Park.
ADNOC Gas Processing, established in 1975 as GASCO, runs the largest gas processing complex in Abu Dhabi, with 26 processing trains and over 3,000 kilometres of pipeline.
ADNOC LNG processes and loads liquefied gas at Das Island, with exports going mainly to East Asia and especially Japan, so jetties and island logistics are part of the operation.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In ADNOC. Offshore platforms, LNG processing at Das Island and petrochemical units show that explosion-proof covers several concepts. Flameproof Ex d suits fixed equipment, while intrinsic safety suits handhelds. A phone relies on the second. The IS-04Z1 target marking is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, subject to certification.
Nothing can be bought for ADNOC today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.
The technical specification, marking target and conditions of use, sent by email.
Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.
Tell us the site, zone, gas group and quantity so the right authorised distributor can contact you.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Das Island and offshore platforms involve marine transfer, salt air, high humidity and strong heat, plus controlled access by boat or helicopter. Check corrosion resistance, ingress protection and temperature range, and ask the operator about transfer rules and any restrictions on batteries or devices.
Typically gas processing trains, LNG and NGL units, refinery process areas, petrochemical plants and offshore platforms. Each ADNOC group company classifies its own facilities, so request the hazardous-area drawing, gas group and temperature class from the specific operating company before choosing equipment.
The sheet says suppliers are directed to ADNOC's supplier registration (the ADNOC Commercial Directory, now under its Supplier Hub) for Group tenders, and an In-Country Value certificate is generally required, per third-party guides. Confirm with the relevant group company. The IS-04Z1 has no certificate.
