Dense traffic across the metropolitan area can slow deliveries, so lead times need extra margin.
Lagos is Nigeria's largest city and commercial centre, with the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports and a newer deep-sea port at Lekki. Lagos has three ports, at Apapa, Tin Can Island and the Lekki deep-sea port, plus four expressways and a standard-gauge rail link to Abeokuta and Ibadan, and handles 88% of Nigeria's exports. An intrinsically safe mobile phone distributor in Lagos would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Lagos has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Lagos. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The companies on site and the hazardous-area types a handset is likely to meet there.
Dense traffic across the metropolitan area can slow deliveries, so lead times need extra margin.
A wet season from May to October and coastal humidity apply.
The refinery's main contractor was China National Chemical Engineering Company, with Engineers India providing project management, so international EPC contractors and mixed-language teams are typical on large Lagos projects.
Other major employers include two breweries, three major shipyards and numerous pharmaceutical companies, so flammable solvents, fuels and dust occur beyond oil and gas.
The Dangote refinery at Lekki reached full refining capacity in February 2026 and is the largest employer in Lagos, so it is the best-known large classified-area site in the city.
Dangote refinery owner has announced an expansion to 1.4 million barrels a day, estimated at 14.3 billion US dollars and expected to be completed by 2029, which implies years of construction and commissioning work.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In Lagos. Port tanker jetties, loading areas and large refinery units mean long inspection rounds and busy loading schedules. An intrinsically safe handheld lets staff photograph equipment, record readings and complete permits at the point of work. That is the use the IS-04Z1 is designed for, once certified and accepted by the operator.
A distributor for Lagos would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, fuel and lpg storage, port tanker jetties and loading. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Lagos.
International and local operators commonly work to IEC 60079 and ask for IECEx or ATEX paperwork, but each site sets its own approval process. Ask the operator's HSE and procurement teams for the approved equipment list and a sample documentation pack before you ship devices.
Yes, heat, humidity and salt air stress seals, ports and batteries. Check the maximum ambient temperature on the certificate, the water and dust ingress rating and the condition of charging contacts. Regular cleaning and spare batteries are typically worthwhile for long outdoor shifts.
Dense traffic across the metropolitan area can slow deliveries, so lead times need extra margin. Agree delivery windows with the facility, plan alternative routes to ports and the Lekki area, and keep spare devices available for critical shifts.
