Lagos is Nigeria's largest city and commercial centre, with the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports and a newer deep-sea port at Lekki. The Lagos Free Zone covers 830 hectares about 60 km east of Lagos city, is integrated with the Lekki Deep Sea Port, and counts Raffles Oil among its first companies. An ATEX and IECEx mobile phone distributor in Lagos would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Lagos has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Lagos. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The companies on site and the hazardous-area types a handset is likely to meet there.

A wet season from May to October and coastal humidity apply.
The Dangote refinery exports refined petroleum products to countries including Ghana, Cameroon, Togo and Tanzania, so loading terminals and marine transfer sites operate alongside the plant.
Lagos is built on lands separated by creeks around the south-west mouth of the Lagos Lagoon and protected from the Atlantic by barrier islands and sand spits, a humid coastal setting that is hard on equipment.
Lagos has three ports, at Apapa, Tin Can Island and the Lekki deep-sea port, plus four expressways and a standard-gauge rail link to Abeokuta and Ibadan, and handles 88% of Nigeria's exports.
The refinery's main contractor was China National Chemical Engineering Company, with Engineers India providing project management, so international EPC contractors and mixed-language teams are typical on large Lagos projects.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Lagos. Lagos combines a very large refinery at Lekki with busy ports, and international contractors and EPCs are active there. A procurement or HSE reviewer would expect to see ATEX and IECEx evidence for a handheld, and a dual route helps those contractors who work across several operators. The IS-04Z1 has no certificate yet, as certification is in progress.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Lagos yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, fuel and lpg storage, port tanker jetties and loading. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Lagos.
International and local operators commonly work to IEC 60079 and ask for IECEx or ATEX paperwork, but each site sets its own approval process. Ask the operator's HSE and procurement teams for the approved equipment list and a sample documentation pack before you ship devices.
Yes, heat, humidity and salt air stress seals, ports and batteries. Check the maximum ambient temperature on the certificate, the water and dust ingress rating and the condition of charging contacts. Regular cleaning and spare batteries are typically worthwhile for long outdoor shifts.
Dense traffic across the metropolitan area can slow deliveries, so lead times need extra margin. Agree delivery windows with the facility, plan alternative routes to ports and the Lekki area, and keep spare devices available for critical shifts.
