Cold winters
Winter months average around minus 2 C, and three out of four January days are below freezing, so outdoor equipment should tolerate low temperatures.
Oslo is Norway's capital and a major maritime and energy-company centre. Sjursoya, a peninsula used entirely by the Port of Oslo, is the main oil port for Eastern Norway and handles petroleum products and methanol, which gives Oslo its main classified areas. An IECEx smartphone distributor in Oslo would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

Equinor's Oslo office and Aker Solutions are at Fornebu, which lies in Baerum municipality rather than Oslo itself.
The waterfalls of the Akerselva powered some of Norway's first modern industry in the 1840s, and the city's population grew from about 10,000 in 1814 to 230,000 by 1900.
The city is a hub of Norwegian trade, banking, industry and shipping, and an important centre for maritime industries, with many of the world's largest shipping companies, shipbrokers and marine insurers based there.
Oslo Gardermoen airport lies 35 km north-east of the city, so air freight and visitors arrive well outside the urban area and then travel by road or rail.
More than a quarter of the city's population, counting children of immigrant parents, has an immigrant background, so workforces and visiting teams in Oslo are often multilingual.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Oslo. Oslo is a maritime and energy-company centre, and visiting international contractors and suppliers serving the port often hold IECEx documentation alongside European files. The scheme supplies a certificate of conformity and a schedule of conditions. IS-04Z1 IECEx certification is in progress, so nothing can be cited today.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Oslo. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
Likely candidates are petroleum product storage and loading, methanol and bulk cargo handling, fuel depots. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Oslo.
Winters are fairly cold under a humid continental climate, so battery performance and display response can fall in low temperatures. Typically users keep spare batteries warm and check the device's rated operating temperature against site conditions.
Often. Oslo's concentration of shipping companies, brokers and insurers means technical managers and buyers are close together. They can usually tell you which certifications and class requirements apply to portable devices on their fleets, but confirm each requirement in writing.
ATEX-based rules apply to equipment, with authorities such as Havtil and DSB involved in oversight in general terms. A supplier should ask the terminal or company which documents it requires. Confirm specifics with the site operator or the relevant authority.
