Port and SEZ
Mundra is a multi-product port-based SEZ with rail, highway and pipeline links, so several industrial operators share the area.
It is India's first private port, with berths operating from 1998 and a concession signed in 2001, so it is a comparatively modern facility. Its liquid terminal and LNG import terminal create hazardous areas around tanks, jetties and regasification plant. Distribution partners for Mundra, Gujarat are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Mundra, Gujarat has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Wikipedia describes a liquid terminal of 97 tanks holding 425,000 kilolitres for crude oil, chemicals and edible oils.
Mundra is India's first multi-product port-based special economic zone, with a notified area of 6,473 hectares and a planned area of 135 square kilometres.
Mundra is India's largest commercial and container port, handling over 155 million tonnes a year, about 11 percent of India's maritime cargo and nearly a third of its container traffic.
The Gulf of Kutch coast to the west, such as at Kandla, is hot and dry, with April and May maxima around 40 degrees Celsius and low rainfall.
The port is designed for containers, dry bulk, break bulk, liquid cargo and automobiles, so a wide mix of hazards exists across terminals.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Mundra, Gujarat. Mundra's hazardous areas include the liquid chemical and oil tank terminal, the LNG regasification terminal, tanker jetties and pipeline terminals. Adani Ports and SEZ and GSPC LNG Limited classify their own areas. PESO is the national regulator, and SAMS has no role in classifying any area.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Mundra, Gujarat yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are liquid chemical and oil tank terminal, lng regasification terminal, tanker jetties, pipeline terminals. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.

Mundra handles containers, bulk and liquid cargo and has a private rail link. Agree customs clearance and last-mile delivery with your forwarder and the operator.
Liquid cargo berths, tank farms, crude oil mooring facilities and chemical handling areas have classified zones. The terminal operators define them, so request the area classification and accepted approvals before taking devices.
Not necessarily. The port operator, the LNG terminal and the tank terminal tenants are separate organisations with their own classification and permits. Confirm requirements with each operator before a device is taken into its area.
