Salt air, heat and humidity are routine, so enclosure ratings and corrosion resistance matter.
Petrobras describes itself as producing about 2.99 million barrels of oil equivalent a day in 2025, and Brazil accounted for roughly 92 percent of its worldwide production in 2014. Pre-salt fields supplied 82 per cent of Petrobras production in 2025, so gas-hazard zones exist on process decks and in storage and offloading areas. Distribution partners for Brazilian offshore oil platforms are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Brazilian offshore oil platforms has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Brazil Oil Platforms. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Salt air, heat and humidity are routine, so enclosure ratings and corrosion resistance matter.
New pre-salt units such as FPSO Almirante Tamandare (Buzios) and FPSO Alexandre de Gusmao (Mero) started up in 2025; FPSOs carry a full process plant on deck.
Petrobras reported that 62.7 percent of its Brazilian proved developed reserves in 2014 were in the offshore Campos Basin, which explains the large fleet of platforms off Rio de Janeiro state.
Petrobras was created in 1953 with a legal monopoly, and a 1997 law ended that monopoly and set up the national petroleum agency ANP as the regulator and supervisor of the industry.
The P-56 project created about 4,000 direct and 12,000 indirect jobs in Brazil, showing the scale of the domestic shipyard and fabrication workforce that supports offshore units.
The semisubmersible P-56 is anchored in 1,670 m of water at the Marlim Sul field, 120 km off the coast, tied back to 21 wells and rated at 100,000 barrels per day with 6 million cubic metres a day of gas compression.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Brazilian offshore oil platforms. A grouping of Brazilian offshore platforms, mainly in the Campos and Santos basins, shares the same hazards: oil and gas process modules, wellhead areas, gas compression, cargo tanks and offloading areas. Each operator classifies its own units. SAMS does not classify any area.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Brazilian offshore oil platforms yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are oil and gas process modules, wellhead areas, gas compression, cargo tanks and offloading areas. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Brazilian offshore oil platforms.
Typically wellhead, process, gas compression, separator and some tank and drilling areas, along with parts of the helideck fuel area. Exact zones, gas groups and temperature classes come from the platform's classification drawings, so confirm them with the operator before taking a device out.
Rules are set by the operator and are usually strict: personal devices are often restricted to accommodation areas, and field devices normally must hold certification for the relevant zone. Check the induction material and ask the safety team which devices are permitted in each area.
Each operator, including Petrobras, Prio, Shell, Trident Energy, Brava Energia and Perenco, applies its own rules on portable devices and approvals. Ask each one for its Ex equipment policy rather than assuming a common standard applies. Confirm with the site operator before any order.
