LNG terminal
The Mundra LNG terminal is run by GSPC LNG Limited, a joint venture of GSPC and Adani Enterprises, with a first-phase capacity of 5 million tonnes a year completed in October 2018.
Mundra is a multipurpose private port and Special Economic Zone on the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat, operated by Adani Ports and SEZ. A private rail network of 117 kilometres links Mundra to Adipur, with doubled track and double-stack container trains. If you are specifying a hazardous area mobile phone for Mundra, Gujarat, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Mundra, Gujarat: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Mundra India. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
The Mundra LNG terminal is run by GSPC LNG Limited, a joint venture of GSPC and Adani Enterprises, with a first-phase capacity of 5 million tonnes a year completed in October 2018.
Mundra is a multi-product port-based SEZ with rail, highway and pipeline links, so several industrial operators share the area.
The port is designed for containers, dry bulk, break bulk, liquid cargo and automobiles, so a wide mix of hazards exists across terminals.
Agreements signed in 2002 and later cover crude oil handling for refinery customers, and a single-point mooring became operational in late 2005.
Mundra lies on the northern shore of the Gulf of Kutch in Kutch district, Gujarat, on major westbound maritime routes.
It is India's first private port, with berths operating from 1998 and a concession signed in 2001, so it is a comparatively modern facility.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Mundra, Gujarat. Mundra's hazardous areas include the liquid chemical and oil tank terminal, the LNG regasification terminal, tanker jetties and pipeline terminals. Adani Ports and SEZ and GSPC LNG Limited classify their own areas. PESO is the national regulator, and SAMS has no role in classifying any area.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are liquid chemical and oil tank terminal, lng regasification terminal, tanker jetties, pipeline terminals. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
The notified multi-product zone covers 6,473 hectares, with a planned area of 135 square kilometres. Many companies operate inside it, each with its own site rules.
The nearby Kandla area has low rainfall of about 322 millimetres a year and April and May maxima around 40 degrees Celsius. Dust and salt air are likely, so check ingress and corrosion ratings.
Crude oil and chemicals matter most because they create hazardous areas around tanks and jetties, and LNG adds light-gas areas. Edible oils are generally less hazardous. The classification record for each area decides, so ask the terminal operator for its gas groups and temperature classes.
