The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for Hungarian refinery units, polymer plants, pharmaceutical solvent areas and gas installations. MOL's Danube Refinery at Százhalombatta started up in 1965 and has a capacity of about 8.1 million tonnes a year, making it one of the largest refineries in Central and Eastern Europe. Distribution partners for Hungary are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.

What “hazardous area” means for a smartphone
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Hungary. Hungarian classified areas include the Danube refinery, the Tiszaújváros cracker and polymer plants, MDI and PVC production at Kazincbarcika, pharmaceutical solvent areas, gas storage and bioethanol or starch plants with combustible dust. The operator classifies each area. SAMS does not; the device is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21.

SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Hungary yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
What does a hazardous area cell phone in Hungary cost?
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. MOL is the largest integrated oil, gas and petrochemical group, and the Paks plant and gas network operators also have hazardous areas. Each company runs its own supplier approval, so contact its procurement and HSE teams for current device and contractor requirements.
Can one device cover both a refinery and a pharmaceutical plant?
Gas groups, dust and temperature needs differ between a refinery and a solvent suite. A device would need a marking that suits each classification. Check each plant's zone documents, since the answer depends on the operator's classification rather than the device alone.
