Hungary: infrastructure
Four operating reactors built between 1982 and 1987 form the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, and nuclear is the main domestic energy source, with almost half of Hungary's energy imported as of 2024.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for Hungarian refinery units, polymer plants, pharmaceutical solvent areas and gas installations. If you are specifying an ATEX and IECEx mobile phone for Hungary, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Hungary: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Hungary. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The classified areas, operators and sites below are the ones covered in the SAMS Hungary market guide.
Four operating reactors built between 1982 and 1987 form the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, and nuclear is the main domestic energy source, with almost half of Hungary's energy imported as of 2024.
MOL is active in exploration and production, refining, distribution, petrochemicals, power generation, trading and retail, with operations in over 30 countries and 2,400 service stations in ten countries as of 2025.
MOL's Danube Refinery at Százhalombatta started up in 1965 and has a capacity of about 8.1 million tonnes a year, making it one of the largest refineries in Central and Eastern Europe.
The Matra power plant, the last coal electricity producer, supplied about 9% of Hungary's electricity in 2020 and was served by coal mines in Visonta and Bükkábrány, with a gas combined-cycle replacement planned.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Hungary. A Hungarian reviewer at MOL, Tiszaújváros or a pharmaceutical plant would expect ATEX evidence consistent with the EU directive and the national decree that implements it. IECEx papers help international EPCs and contractors working across several countries. A dual route lets one pack serve both audiences. Certification is in progress; no certificate has been issued.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.

Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Continental winters can bring sub-zero temperatures, which reduce battery capacity. Check the lowest rated ambient temperature on the certificate and whether touch input works with gloves. Plan spare batteries and warm storage for outdoor work at refineries and pipeline stations.
MOL is the largest integrated oil, gas and petrochemical group, and the Paks plant and gas network operators also have hazardous areas. Each company runs its own supplier approval, so contact its procurement and HSE teams for current device and contractor requirements.
Gas groups, dust and temperature needs differ between a refinery and a solvent suite. A device would need a marking that suits each classification. Check each plant's zone documents, since the answer depends on the operator's classification rather than the device alone.
