Seatrium yards
Seatrium's own contact page lists a Pioneer Yard at 50 Gul Road, a Benoi Yard at 15 Benoi Road and a Tuas Yard at 51 Pioneer Sector 1.
Pioneer is a heavily industrial planning area of 12.2 square kilometres in western Singapore, part of the Jurong Industrial Estate. Seatrium lists Pioneer Yard at 50 Gul Road, Tuas Yard at 51 Pioneer Sector 1 and Benoi Yard at 15 Benoi Road, three separate gates within the same western industrial belt. If you are specifying an explosion proof smartphone for Pioneer, Jurong Industrial Estate, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Pioneer, Jurong Industrial Estate: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Pioneer Industrial Area. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Who operates there and which kinds of classified area a handset would meet, from the SAMS site research.
Seatrium's own contact page lists a Pioneer Yard at 50 Gul Road, a Benoi Yard at 15 Benoi Road and a Tuas Yard at 51 Pioneer Sector 1.
ST Engineering bought the roughly 141,000 square metre Gul yard in 2023 for ship repair, in addition to its Benoi yard, which is mainly for shipbuilding.
Pioneer is bounded by Jurong West, Boon Lay, Tuas and the Jurong Strait, and has five subzones: Benoi Sector, Gul Basin, Gul Circle, Joo Koon and Pioneer Sector.
The area was once called Jalan Besi, meaning Metal Road, until JTC renamed local roads in English during the development of Jurong Industrial Estate.
The equatorial climate brings year-round heat and humidity with frequent heavy showers, which affects outdoor shipyard work and the handling of electronic equipment.
Work at Seatrium's Singapore yards includes dry-docking, retrofitting, life extension and conversion of floating production vessels, gas carriers, tankers and jack-up rigs.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Pioneer, Jurong Industrial Estate. Classified areas here are mostly tied to vessel work and coatings, so explosion-proof means different things for a paint shop and a tank. Flameproof Ex d suits fixed gear, while handhelds rely on intrinsic safety. The IS-04Z1 is designed for intrinsic safety, so specify the concept.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are shipyard and marine work areas, paint and coating shops, fabrication yards. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Mainly shipyards: Seatrium's Pioneer, Tuas and Benoi yards sit in or beside the area, where tank entry, repair and coating work create temporary Zone 1 conditions on vessels. The estate also has general industry that is not classified, so ask each tenant for its own zoning.
Heat, humidity and heavy showers shorten battery life and test seals and connectors, particularly on open decks and quays. Choose devices with suitable ingress protection and a proper charging routine, and keep spare certified batteries in a dry safe area.
Seatrium and ST Engineering's Gul yard are the operators named for the area. Individual Seatrium yard names and their presence here were not confirmed, so ask the company which yard serves your project. Older references to Keppel-owned yards are out of date.
