Climate
A humid subtropical climate with heavy June to August rain.
GS Caltex has a refining capacity of about 800,000 barrels per stream day, and it operates Korea's largest heavy oil upgrading facility at 275,000 barrels a day, cracking heavy residues into lighter fuels. GS Caltex's Yeosu Complex and Lotte Chemical's Yeosu plant create large Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas. An explosion proof smartphone distributor in Yeosu would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Yeosu has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Yeosu. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
A humid subtropical climate with heavy June to August rain.
The Yeosu Complex covers about 6 million square metres, with a mixed feed cracker completed in November 2022 producing 900,000 tonnes of ethylene a year.
The aromatics business started in 1990, with annual capacity of 3.0 million tonnes of aromatics and 180,000 tonnes of polypropylene, so benzene-type vapour hazards exist alongside fuel and olefin units.
GS Caltex concentrates its refining and petrochemical plants at the Yeosu Complex, which covers about 6 million square metres, making the complex a large single-site hazardous-area environment.
Yeosu consists of a peninsula and 365 islands, 48 of them inhabited, midway along South Korea's southern coast beside the Bay of Suncheon, with a population of about 269,000.
Yeosu has a humid subtropical climate with very warm summers and cold winters, and from June to August more than 200 mm of rain falls each month.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Yeosu. At a cracker and polymer complex, explosion-proof is loose shorthand. Flameproof Ex d protects fixed equipment, while a handheld phone around process units and tank farms depends on intrinsic safety. The IS-04Z1 is designed around that concept, with certification in progress and operator rules applying.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Yeosu. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, ethylene cracker and polymer plants, chemical storage tank farms, marine loading jetties. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Yeosu.
Large operators such as GS Caltex normally run vendor registration and safety induction processes, with permits for work in classified areas. Confirm the current requirements directly with the plant's procurement and safety departments before mobilising equipment.
Yes. June to August brings more than 200 mm of rain a month and high humidity, followed by cold winters. Typically devices need good water ingress protection and cleaning routines, and battery performance should be checked in cold weather.
Yeosu has heavy rain from June to August, which affects outdoor rounds and jetty work. The IS-04Z1 is designed to IP68 for dust and water, but that does not give explosion protection. Plan handling and charging in dry, safe areas and check with the operator.
