Jordan: projects and investment
Modern renewables made up 10% of final energy consumption in 2020, up from 3% in 2015, and developers sell power to the National Electric Power Company, so solar and wind construction is increasing.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Jordan every shift: potash and phosphate plant operators, refinery crews at Zarqa, port operators at Aqaba, and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. In 2021 Jordan's total energy supply was 51% oil, 38% gas, 3% coal and 8% renewables, so fuel storage, gas networks and power stations form its main flammable-materials infrastructure. An explosion proof smartphone distributor in Jordan would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Jordan has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Modern renewables made up 10% of final energy consumption in 2020, up from 3% in 2015, and developers sell power to the National Electric Power Company, so solar and wind construction is increasing.
The Arab Potash Company holds a concession to 2058 to extract Dead Sea minerals, has its main plants at Ghor Al Safi, and is the eighth-largest potash producer worldwide.
The Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company's activities include refining, filling gas cylinders, a lubricant factory and fuel marketing through JoPetrol, so one operator spans several hazardous-area process types.
A separate modernisation project with UOP and Technip aims for 73,000 barrels a day, and construction began in 2024 on a 10,000-tonne LPG storage facility intended for completion in 2026.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Jordan. Explosion-proof is a common phrase, but Jordan's heaviest exposure is dust at potash and phosphate sites, with gas at Zarqa refinery and Aqaba. Flameproof Ex d suits some fixed gear; an intrinsically safe handset suits a worker moving between plants. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety for Zone 1 and Zone 21.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Jordan yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.

Yes, Aqaba is Jordan's only seaport and most imported equipment arrives there, with the airport as an alternative for urgent shipments. Customs and zone rules differ, so agree clearance procedures with your importer before ordering and allow time for road transport to Zarqa or Amman.
Summers can be very hot and dusty, so check the maximum ambient temperature on the certificate, the dust and water ingress rating and battery behaviour in heat. Avoid leaving devices in vehicles or on hot equipment, and consider sunshades for outdoor work at the refinery or solar sites.
The IS-04Z1 has IP68 sealing for dust and water, but heat affects any battery. Ask for the datasheet's temperature range and trial a unit at a desert site. Site rules on charging and storing devices in safe areas still apply.
