Climate
Busan has a humid subtropical climate and is among the most typhoon-prone Korean cities.
Busan has about 3.3 million residents, and its surrounding Southeastern Maritime Industrial Region, including Ulsan and South Gyeongsang, has around 8 million, making it a large industrial labour and supplier base. Shipbuilding and ship repair are key local industries, so Zone 1 conditions arise in yards, fuel and chemical storage and cargo handling. An explosion proof smartphone distributor in Busan would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

The container terminal has 43 berths, 20 at the North Port and 23 at Busan New Port, which is described as a gateway to the Eurasian continent and a key point on the Maritime Silk Road.

Busan has a mild humid subtropical climate influenced by the East Asian monsoon, with cool dry winters, rare temperature extremes and snow on only about four days a year.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Busan. In a repair yard or fuel store, explosion-proof is a loose phrase. Flameproof Ex d housings protect fixed equipment, whereas a handheld phone taken into a vessel tank space relies on intrinsic safety. The IS-04Z1 is designed on that principle, with certification in progress and each yard's permit rules applying.
A distributor for Busan would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are vessel tank spaces, ship repair yards, fuel and chemical storage, port cargo handling. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Busan.
Korean is the working language at most sites, though the port area is used to foreign crews and visitors. Plan interpreters or Korean-language safety materials for local staff, and check that device interfaces and instructions can be provided in Korean.
Port tank terminals, ship repair and shipbuilding yards, and industrial plants in the wider south-east region can all have gas or vapour areas. Each operator sets its own zones and permits, so ask for classification drawings and portable-device policy.
Busan Port Authority manages the port and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) covers workplace safety. SAMS does not hold any approval from either. Ask the yard or terminal which rules it applies, and confirm with the site operator.
