Role
The terminal supplies about half of Singapore's natural gas for power generation, the remainder coming by pipeline.
The terminal supplies about 50 percent of the natural gas used for Singapore's electricity, with the rest coming by pipeline, and it could cover all present demand if required. It receives, stores and sends out natural gas, mainly for power generation, so tank, jetty and send-out areas are gas-hazardous. If you are specifying an Ex-proof smartphone for Singapore LNG Terminal, Jurong Island, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Singapore LNG Terminal, Jurong Island: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Singapore LNG. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
The terminal supplies about half of Singapore's natural gas for power generation, the remainder coming by pipeline.
SLNG states three tanks of 180,000 cubic metres each plus a fourth of 260,000 cubic metres, with average send-out capacity of 9 million tonnes per annum and a peak of around 11.
When it opened in 2013 the terminal had a single jetty and two storage tanks, and it has been expanded in stages as Singapore's LNG demand grew.
Gas and LNG facilities are covered by Singapore's Workplace Safety and Health framework, and Major Hazard Installations need documented area classification drawings under MOM and SCDF rules.
SLNG plans to develop a second LNG terminal, an offshore facility slated to be operational by the end of the decade, in addition to the Jurong Island terminal.
The SLNG Terminal has an annualised average gas supply capacity of 9 million tonnes per annum and a peak capacity of up to 11 million tonnes per annum.
“Ex-proof” is shorthand for equipment carrying an explosion-protection marking (the Ex mark) that matches the area it enters. The marking states the protection concept, gas or dust group and temperature class, and it must be backed by a certificate issued by a recognised body, so a phone described as Ex-proof should come with a certificate number you can check.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to carry the marking II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. That is a target: certification is in progress, no certificate has been issued, and SAMS will publish the certificate numbers when they exist.
In Singapore LNG Terminal, Jurong Island. The site description puts tank, jetty and send-out areas at Zone 1 and Zone 2, with methane the main gas, which is usually Group IIA. A marking check would compare the device label with the operator's classification. The IS-04Z1 target marking is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, not yet issued.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. It becomes a marking only when the certificate is issued; until then it is a design target.
Likely candidates are lng storage tanks, lng jetties and loading arms, regasification and send-out. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Typical classified areas include jetty loading arms and manifolds, tank roofs and vent systems, pump and vaporiser areas and send-out metering. Natural gas is typically treated as gas Group IIA, but check the gas group and temperature class against the terminal's own classification.
SLNG plans a second offshore terminal by the end of the decade and has expanded the current one in stages. Construction and commissioning phases bring many contractors on site, so approved-equipment lists and induction rules apply from day one; confirm them with the project team.
The tank, jetty and send-out areas create Zone 1 and Zone 2 conditions according to the site description, and small-scale reloading is also a gas area. SLNG classifies them. Ask it for the classification drawings and do not assume zones from the general description.
