Humid coastal climate
Warm, wet conditions and salt exposure are normal.
Exports of gasoline rose 24.1 percent and fuel oil 15.3 percent in August 2025 alongside pulp and soybeans, showing steady liquid-bulk flows through the port. Hazardous areas arise at liquid-bulk terminals handling fuels, chemicals and vegetable oils, and at tank farms and tanker berths. If you are specifying an Ex-proof smartphone for Port of Santos, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Port of Santos: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

The port handles roughly 28 per cent of Brazil's total cargo, so terminals run continuously.
In August 2025 Santos handled a record 16.5 million tonnes of cargo and 518,100 TEU, and moved 3.8 million TEU from January to August, up 8 percent on the year before.
The Santos Port Authority has begun installing a private 5G network under its Porto de Santos Conecta programme, relevant to anyone planning radio or data devices on the quay.
The port accounted for 29.9 percent of Brazil's total trade flows in August 2025 and recorded 489 ship calls in the month, up 9.6 percent.
It has terminals for solid and liquid bulk, containers and general cargo, and land access is by the Anchieta and Imigrantes highways and by railways run by Ferroban and MRS.
“Ex-proof” is shorthand for equipment carrying an explosion-protection marking (the Ex mark) that matches the area it enters. The marking states the protection concept, gas or dust group and temperature class, and it must be backed by a certificate issued by a recognised body, so a phone described as Ex-proof should come with a certificate number you can check.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to carry the marking II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. That is a target: certification is in progress, no certificate has been issued, and SAMS will publish the certificate numbers when they exist.
In Port of Santos. Chemicals, fuels and vegetable oils pass through the port, so gas group and temperature class differ between terminals. A label check should compare zone, gas group and temperature class with each terminal's classification. The IS-04Z1 target marking II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 is not yet certified.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. It becomes a marking only when the certificate is issued; until then it is a design target.
Likely candidates are liquid-bulk fuel and chemical terminals, tank farms, tanker piers and loading arms, lpg handling. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Operations run at high volume with many ship calls a month, and gate or terminal inductions are usual. Confirm with the terminal which devices are allowed in classified areas, and whether certificates and personal protective equipment checks apply.
Possibly, for terminals that connect to it. Compatibility and access rules depend on the port authority and each terminal operator, so confirm which radio bands, SIM or network access and device approvals are accepted.
The sheet notes that its Alemoa terminal operator list comes from a port directory and may be dated. Verify current operators directly. Confirm with the site operator who runs which pier or tank before assuming a particular policy applies.
