Four corridors carry most of it, the Seine valley below Le Havre, the Loire estuary, the Rhône from Lyon to the sea, and the Étang de Berre, with Lacq and Carling carrying the older gas and coal chemistry.

France treats employee geolocation as a data protection question with CNIL guidance behind it, and the CSE expects to be consulted. Location services, the camera and individual applications are set by policy, so what is switched off can be demonstrated.
ATEX is the whole product-side requirement and France adds no national scheme behind it. What France does add is documentary: instructions in French, a marking string an HSE team can drop into the DRPCE, and a site authorised as an ICPE and inspected by the DREAL rather than left to self-declare.
On the product side France is straightforward. ATEX 2014/34/EU applies directly, a notified body issues the certificate and the CE marking follows, with no separate French approval afterwards. Buyers do expect a familiar name on the certificate, and the two they read fastest are INERIS, notified body 0080, and LCIE Bureau Veritas, 0081. Two French conditions matter in practice: the notice d'instructions has to be supplied in French, and radio conformity runs under the Radio Equipment Directive with the ANFR responsible for spectrum and radio equipment in France.
The obligations that shape the purchase belong to the employer and the operator. Articles R.4227-52 to R.4227-54 of the Code du travail require a document relatif à la protection contre les explosions, the DRPCE, which records the risk assessment and the protective measures and is carried into the DUERP; the zoning behind it follows the arrêté of 8 July 2003, in zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and 20, 21 and 22 for dust. INERIS publishes the practical ATEX guidance most French preventionists work from, and INRS the prevention material behind it. Above that sits the site itself, authorised under the ICPE regime and, past the Seveso thresholds, classified seuil bas or seuil haut and inspected by the DREAL.

T4 limits the maximum surface temperature of the equipment to 135 °C, which covers most substances handled on French sites. That figure is about the device, not the weather: the ambient range the certificate fixes is published with the datasheet, and summer behaviour at Fos or Lavéra is what an evaluation should measure.
