France: logistics and access
Le Havre is France's second-largest commercial port by tonnage and its largest for containers, managed since 2008 by the state agency Grand Port Maritime du Havre, a key entry point for imported equipment.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, aimed at the refineries, chemical platforms and LNG terminals that make up the French Seveso estate. Hydropower has 20 GW of installed capacity and supplies around 10% of French electricity, and renewables provided 26% of national consumption in 2022. Distribution partners for France are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. France has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Le Havre is France's second-largest commercial port by tonnage and its largest for containers, managed since 2008 by the state agency Grand Port Maritime du Havre, a key entry point for imported equipment.
The Lacq gas field in Nouvelle-Aquitaine was discovered in 1950 and began production in 1958; its sour gas comes from about 4,000 metres depth.
ATEX has two equipment groups, Group I for mining and Group II for surface industries, and CE plus Ex marking lets compliant equipment be sold anywhere in the EU, including France.
Fos-sur-Mer lies about 50 km north-west of Marseille on the Mediterranean coast, west of the Etang de Berre, and hosts a major port development run by the Autonomous Port of Marseille.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In France. French classified areas include refinery units, chemical platforms in the Seine valley and Rhône corridor, LNG terminals, gas storage and compressor stations. The operator or site holder defines the zones, normally within its Seveso risk documents. SAMS does not classify areas; it designs the device for Zone 1 and Zone 21.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for France yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for France.
The Fos-sur-Mer and Marseille coast combines a gas terminal, steel, chemistry and oil industries, and the country also has many nuclear and hydro sites. Details of individual plants and zones come from each operator, so request their site layout and approval procedure.
Yes, as an EU member France applies ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU to equipment and zoning under Directive 1999/92/EC. Zone 1 or Zone 2 devices should carry CE and Ex markings with instructions in French. Operators usually add their own approval and permit rules.
Android lets the interface language be set per user, and a fleet can be managed through EMM or MDM. Confirm the exact language support and any locked configuration on the datasheet. Contractor crews often prefer a common set-up agreed before a shutdown.
