Sweden: logistics and access
The Port of Gothenburg is the largest in the Nordic countries and handles nearly 30% of Sweden's foreign trade, about 39 million tonnes a year, so most imported equipment can enter through one port.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for refinery and cracker rounds on the west coast, mill and recovery boiler areas inland, and winter shifts in the north where a device is handled through two layers of glove. Preem's refineries provide roughly half of all petroleum products consumed in Sweden and nearly 65% of its production is sold abroad, mainly in north-west Europe, so its refineries are large and busy classified-area sites. Distribution partners for Sweden are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Sweden has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

The Port of Gothenburg is the largest in the Nordic countries and handles nearly 30% of Sweden's foreign trade, about 39 million tonnes a year, so most imported equipment can enter through one port.
The Lysekil refinery plan began in 1945 when the consumer-owned oil company OK was formed, but the plant was only inaugurated in 1975, and it remains one of the area's main employers.
Transport, especially aviation fuel and cars, is still majority powered by fossil fuels, so fuel depots, airports and filling stations remain the largest flammable-liquid networks outside refineries.
Preem has announced plans, still in progress, to expand its refinery at Lysekil, which indicates continuing construction and maintenance work on the west coast.
A rugged phone is built to survive water, dust, drops and rough handling, usually rated by an IP code and a drop specification. Ruggedness is an environmental property: it says nothing about whether a phone may be used where flammable gas or dust is present. That is decided by explosion-protection certification and marking.
The IS-04Z1 combines both: an IP68 sealed rugged build and a design for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4). The explosion-protection certificates are in progress and none has been issued.
In Sweden. Sweden asks a handset to work in the cold and through winter clothing, and meltwater follows a device indoors. A rugged build covers low temperature and thermal shock, and IP68 sealing covers snow and meltwater. A northern site will reject a device whose lower limit stops at a Central European winter. IP68 is not explosion protection.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Sweden yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
It is designed to IP68 sealing, with glove-friendly controls. Ruggedness is not explosion protection: that depends on the certificates, which are in progress.

Sweden is an EU member, so ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU applies to equipment and Directive 1999/92/EC to zoning. Zone 1 and Zone 2 devices should carry CE and Ex markings. Refineries such as Lysekil typically add their own permit and device registration rules, so ask the HSE office.
Swedish is the working language but English is widely used at international industrial sites. ATEX instructions are typically expected in the language of the destination country, so confirm with the operator whether Swedish documents are needed. Bring the declaration of conformity and certificate.
A rugged build covers low temperature and thermal shock, but the certified ambient range is a certificate parameter, published with the datasheet. Certification is in progress. Check the lower limit against the coldest conditions at the mine or steelworks before specifying.
