Denmark: logistics and access
Denmark imports about 12% of its energy but is also an exporter, and its electricity grid is connected by transmission lines to other European countries.
The IS-04Z1 is an explosion proof mobile phone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, from a wet deck 225 km west of Esbjerg to a fermentation building at Kalundborg and a biogas upgrading skid on Lolland. Port Esbjerg calls itself the world's largest base port for offshore wind activities and says it has been involved in shipping components to more than 65 offshore wind projects. A rugged smartphone distributor in Denmark would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Denmark has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Denmark. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Denmark imports about 12% of its energy but is also an exporter, and its electricity grid is connected by transmission lines to other European countries.
Denmark has North Sea oil and gas but ranked only 57th among net crude exporters in 2023 after ranking 32nd in 2008, so offshore work is mature, with decommissioning and maintenance a larger share.
North Sea natural gas projects began in 1984 and North Sea production made Denmark self-sufficient in energy in 1997, which explains the established offshore supply chain on the west coast.
Manufacturers who apply the ATEX provisions and affix CE and Ex markings may sell equipment anywhere in the EU without further requirements for those risks, so Danish buyers can use EU-wide certificates.
A rugged phone is built to survive water, dust, drops and rough handling, usually rated by an IP code and a drop specification. Ruggedness is an environmental property: it says nothing about whether a phone may be used where flammable gas or dust is present. That is decided by explosion-protection certification and marking.
The IS-04Z1 combines both: an IP68 sealed rugged build and a design for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4). The explosion-protection certificates are in progress and none has been issued.
In Denmark. The North Sea and the west coast of Jutland treat weather sealing as a daily test: salt, wind and horizontal rain. IP68 sealing and a rugged build are aimed at exposed working, not at a pocket. IP68 is not explosion protection, which comes from the ATEX certificate and marking.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Denmark. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
It is designed to IP68 sealing, with glove-friendly controls. Ruggedness is not explosion protection: that depends on the certificates, which are in progress.

Denmark applies ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU as an EU member, and the directive explicitly covers equipment used on fixed offshore platforms. Operators typically add their own approval, helicopter and survival-suit procedures. Confirm the platform operator's device rules well ahead of a trip.
Yes, though the sector is mature. Oil and gas production began scaling in the 1980s and continues, with maintenance and decommissioning work. Other hazardous-area work comes from biogas, power and industrial plants. Confirm current projects with operators rather than relying on past production figures.
It is designed for Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust, with four-constellation GNSS and 4G LTE for lone working, but certification is in progress and no certificate exists. Suitability depends on the area classification and gas group at each plant. Check with the plant operator and request the datasheet.
