Free zone scale
Jafza, the flagship free zone of DP World, describes itself as home to over 11,000 businesses, including 532+ petrochemical-sector companies, so site rules vary company by company.
Dubai's industrial hazardous-area work centres on Jebel Ali, where the port, the Jebel Ali Free Zone and a power and desalination complex sit together. Dubai Industrial City, close by, adds manufacturing and logistics zones. Petrochemical and fuel-handling businesses in the free zone keep classified areas in use. A rugged mobile phone distributor in Dubai industrial areas would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Dubai industrial areas has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Dubai Industrial. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Jafza, the flagship free zone of DP World, describes itself as home to over 11,000 businesses, including 532+ petrochemical-sector companies, so site rules vary company by company.
Dubai Industrial City is close to Jebel Ali Port, Al Maktoum International Airport and an Etihad Rail freight terminal, which eases delivery of equipment.
Dubai had about 4 million residents in 2025, 92 per cent of them expatriates, so industrial crews and contractors are highly international.
Dubai handsets fall under the federal Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, which accepts European documents and renews certificates every three years.
The Fateh oil field lies offshore of the Jebel Ali area of Dubai, linking the emirate's own oil operations to its industrial coast.
Its zones include food and beverage, base-metal and transportation areas, warehouses and a conservation area, so hazards range from food-plant ammonia and dust to metal processing.
A rugged phone is built to survive water, dust, drops and rough handling, usually rated by an IP code and a drop specification. Ruggedness is an environmental property: it says nothing about whether a phone may be used where flammable gas or dust is present. That is decided by explosion-protection certification and marking.
The IS-04Z1 combines both: an IP68 sealed rugged build and a design for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4). The explosion-protection certificates are in progress and none has been issued.
In Dubai industrial areas. Summer highs average around 40 degrees C with high humidity, so heat tolerance matters for outdoor work at terminals and power stations. IP68 helps against dust and water, but it does not provide explosion protection. That relies on the Ex marking and certificate, which for the IS-04Z1 are still in progress.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Dubai industrial areas yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is designed to IP68 sealing, with glove-friendly controls. Ruggedness is not explosion protection: that depends on the certificates, which are in progress.
Likely candidates are petrochemical and fuel storage and handling, power and desalination plant fuel systems, smelter and metal-processing plant, industrial chemical warehousing. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Dubai industrial areas.
No. Dubai Industrial City is a separate 52 square km industrial park founded in 2004, near Al Maktoum Airport along Emirates Road. Jebel Ali has the port, free zone and power plants. Each has different tenants and site rules, so confirm which one your job is in.
Radio devices sold in the UAE normally need federal type approval from the regulator, with certificates typically renewed every three years and a valid supplier register. Check the current requirements with your importer, and then check the site operator's rules for hazardous areas.
No. Utilities and free-zone operators set their own approval rules, and the free zone hosts many companies, so site-by-site rules are the norm. Check with each operator, such as the utility, terminal or tenant, what evidence a phone needs before use in a classified area.
