Large chemical cluster
The Ankleshwar Industries Association lists 220 chemical, 156 dye and dye intermediate, 11 pesticide and 69 pharmaceutical member units, among others.
Ankleshwar, in Bharuch district, Gujarat, hosts a large GIDC industrial estate and chemical cluster of about 1,600 hectares. Sources report between 1,500 and 2,000 units making chemicals, dyes, pesticides and pharmaceuticals, where solvent handling creates classified areas. Distribution partners for Ankleshwar are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Ankleshwar has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Ankleshwar India. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
The Ankleshwar Industries Association lists 220 chemical, 156 dye and dye intermediate, 11 pesticide and 69 pharmaceutical member units, among others.
Ankleshwar is about 14 km from Bharuch city, on the Mumbai-Delhi national highway and the Western Railway line.
The nearby Dahej port has a dedicated liquid handling facility run by the Gujarat Chemical Port Terminal Company that can load or unload up to 25,000 tonnes a day.
Pollution in the estate is regulated by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board, which asks the industrial association to self-enforce among its member units.
Since 2019 India's telecom authority has rolled out mandatory testing and certification of telecom equipment, and the registration must be handled by an authorised Indian representative.
A bridge built in 1881, the Golden Bridge, still connects Ankleshwar and Bharuch across the Narmada, and a newer bridge carries the highway, so river crossings are well established.
A rugged phone is built to survive water, dust, drops and rough handling, usually rated by an IP code and a drop specification. Ruggedness is an environmental property: it says nothing about whether a phone may be used where flammable gas or dust is present. That is decided by explosion-protection certification and marking.
The IS-04Z1 combines both: an IP68 sealed rugged build and a design for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4). The explosion-protection certificates are in progress and none has been issued.
In Ankleshwar. Ankleshwar is a busy industrial estate, about 14 km from Bharuch city, on the Mumbai-Delhi national highway. Heat, humidity and dust are general concerns in Gujarat, and chemical splash is possible. IP68 helps against dust and water, but it is not explosion protection; check the datasheet's operating range.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Ankleshwar. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is designed to IP68 sealing, with glove-friendly controls. Ruggedness is not explosion protection: that depends on the certificates, which are in progress.
Likely candidates are chemical reactors and solvent areas, dye and dye intermediate plants, pesticide manufacturing, pharmaceutical bulk drug solvent handling. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Ankleshwar.
An estate has thousands of small and medium units run by different companies, each with its own processes, solvents and safety rules. Hazardous-area requirements therefore vary unit by unit, so always ask each plant for its area classification and accepted approvals.
Ankleshwar is on National Highway 8 and the Western Railway, about 14 kilometres from Bharuch, with the nearest major airports at Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad. Agree access and gate times with each unit before sending staff.
The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation is listed for hazardous-area matters, and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board regulates industrial pollution, which can add compliance requirements. The exact remit for a phone has not been confirmed here. Ask the plant operator which authority and documents apply.
