Gul yard
ST Engineering acquired the site and assets of the Gul yard formerly run by Keppel FELS in 2023: about 141,000 square metres, with three floating docks.
Keppel's offshore and marine yards in Singapore are now part of Seatrium, formed in 2023 by the merger of Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Offshore & Marine. Singapore has an equatorial climate with steady heat, high humidity and frequent afternoon rain, so outdoor yard work exposes handheld equipment to moisture and sun throughout the year. An intrinsically safe smartphone distributor in Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium yards), Singapore would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium yards), Singapore has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Keppel Shipyard. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
ST Engineering acquired the site and assets of the Gul yard formerly run by Keppel FELS in 2023: about 141,000 square metres, with three floating docks.
Seatrium lists Singapore yards at Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard, with headquarters at 80 Tuas South Boulevard.
Seatrium's Singapore yards include Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard, plus the offshore-focused Crescent and Pandan yards, so contractors may work at several sites in one project.
The yards are spread widely: Admiralty Yard is on Admiralty Road West in the north, while Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard yards sit in the industrial west of the island.
Pioneer Yard offers a 1,400 metre quay with 8 to 10 metres of depth, and Crescent Yard has a 740 metre quay with 6 metres of depth, supporting several vessels alongside at once.
In 2015 Keppel Shipyard secured an FPSO conversion worth 89 million dollars covering repair, upgrade and modification, with completion expected in the third quarter of 2016.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium yards), Singapore. Repair and conversion work means inspectors moving through tanks, cargo spaces and dry docks, often on short jobs. A handheld intrinsically safe device lets them photograph defects and record measurements while permits are in force. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 use, with a 4,000 mAh battery.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium yards), Singapore yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.
Likely candidates are vessel tank and cargo spaces, offshore unit conversion, paint and solvent areas, dry dock work. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Keppel Shipyard (now Seatrium yards), Singapore.
They typically arise in cargo and fuel tanks, pump rooms, voids and paint or coating areas while a vessel is being worked on. Classification changes with each job and with gas-free certification, so ask the yard safety team which spaces are zoned before carrying a portable device on board.
Access is normally arranged through the yard or the vessel owner's project team, with induction, a site pass and a hot-work or gas-free permit system. Addresses for each yard are listed publicly, but you need a named sponsor. Ask them for the equipment rules before shipping devices.
Shipyards control permits and gas-free certification per vessel, so approval can differ from job to job. Confirm device rules with the yard safety department, and expect to explain the marking, the certification status and how the device will be charged outside hazardous spaces.
