Port and hinterland
Dahej is a deep-water cargo port handling LNG, chemicals, coal and petroleum products, with a large Special Economic Zone in its hinterland and rail and road links.
Dahej is a cargo port and industrial area in Bharuch district on the Gulf of Khambhat, Gujarat. Dahej has two LNG jetties, the first for Q-Flex vessels and the second for Q-Max carriers, and had handled 3,538 cargoes by 30 September 2024. An intrinsically safe smartphone distributor in Dahej, Gujarat would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Dahej, Gujarat has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Dahej India. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Dahej is a deep-water cargo port handling LNG, chemicals, coal and petroleum products, with a large Special Economic Zone in its hinterland and rail and road links.
The setting is general hot, humid coastal conditions with salty air and monsoon rain, which favours sealed, corrosion-resistant devices.
Tides at Dahej are large: high water can rise 10 to 11 metres, and vessels anchor about 5.5 kilometres from the old port, so marine work depends on tide tables.
The surrounding Bharuch district has a tropical savanna climate, with average maxima of about 40 degrees Celsius in April and May and around 800 millimetres of monsoon rain by September.
Port users include Petronet LNG, the Gujarat Chemical Port Terminal Company, ONGC OPAL, Birla Copper, Torrent Pharmaceuticals and Reliance Industries, each with its own jetty or facility.
Petronet LNG's Dahej terminal has a capacity of 17.5 million tonnes a year with eight LNG storage tanks and is being expanded to 22.5 million tonnes in two phases.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In Dahej, Gujarat. Inspection of LNG storage, regasification lines and jetty arms is repetitive, and operators need scanning, photos and checklists in hand. An intrinsically safe handheld suits those rounds because it limits energy by design. The IS-04Z1 is designed for the purpose, though certification is not complete.
A distributor for Dahej, Gujarat would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.
Likely candidates are lng storage and regasification, ethane and propane handling, marine jetties, petrochemical plants. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Dahej, Gujarat.
High water can rise 10 to 11 metres, which affects vessel movements, jetty operations and marine support work. Schedules usually follow tide tables, so build flexibility into plans for jetty visits.
LNG sites typically classify areas around storage tanks, vaporisation units, jetty loading arms and truck loading bays, because vapour can form a flammable mixture with air. The operator defines the zones, so request the drawings and accepted approvals before entering.
Check ingress rating, corrosion resistance of connectors and seals, and how the device is stored between shifts. Heavy rain, salty air and heat all matter. IP68 helps with water, but explosion protection comes only from the marking. Ask the operator about its portable equipment rules in wet weather.
