Intrinsically Safe Mobile Phone Supplier for Borouge

Borouge is a polyolefins producer making polyethylene and polypropylene at Ruwais, founded in 1998 through a partnership between ADNOC and Borealis. Upon expansion Borouge was expected to be the largest single-site polyolefin complex in the world, supplying feedstock to the nearby TA'ZIZ Industrial Chemicals Zone. This page sets out how an intrinsically safe mobile phone supply route to Borouge will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.

How suppliers reach Borouge

Borouge's e-procurement page directs suppliers to register on the ADNOC Commercial Directory (not applicable in Asia Pacific, where the local Borouge office is the contact); confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.

More about Borouge that matters for portable equipment

Borouge: people and language

Borouge was reported to have a workforce of more than 3,100 people, so the Ruwais plants run as a staffed industrial site with its own induction and permit practice.

Borouge: projects and investment

In September 2026 the new XLPE plant at Ruwais delivered its first customer batch after performance testing, adding 100,000 tonnes a year and doubling the group's XLPE output in the region.

Borouge: infrastructure

Borouge 4 includes a 1.5 million tonne ethane cracker, two Borstar polyethylene plants and a cross-linked polyethylene plant, so ethane and ethylene handling is central to the new units.

Borouge: who works there

The business has two parts: Abu Dhabi Polymers Company, the production company in Abu Dhabi, and Borouge Pte Ltd, which is based in Singapore.

The term · intrinsically safe

What “intrinsically safe” means for a smartphone

Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.

The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.

In Borouge. Rounds across an ethane cracker, polymer plants and chemical storage and loading involve gauge readings, checks and loading-area inspections. A handheld designed for intrinsic safety could capture readings, photos and calls in classified spots if its certificate allows. Permit rules at Ruwais belong to Borouge.

Sourcing the IS-04Z1 for Borouge

Nothing can be bought for Borouge today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.

Questions · Borouge

Frequently asked questions

Can Borouge buy the IS-04Z1 today?

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.

What does an intrinsically safe mobile phone for Borouge cost?

No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.

What does ‘intrinsically safe’ mean for the IS-04Z1?

The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.

How does Borouge approve suppliers?

Borouge's e-procurement page directs suppliers to register on the ADNOC Commercial Directory (not applicable in Asia Pacific, where the local Borouge office is the contact); confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams.

How will SAMS supply Borouge?

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.

What hazardous areas does a polyolefin site like Borouge involve?

Ethane cracker and polyethylene and polypropylene units typically have flammable gas zones around reactors, compressors and storage, and powder and pellet handling brings combustible dust zones. Borouge classifies each unit, so ask for the area drawing, gas and dust group and temperature class.

How has the 2026 group restructuring affected Borouge procurement?

Since 31 March 2026 Borouge Plc has been part of Borouge Group International AG, formed from Borouge, Borealis and NOVA Chemicals. Supplier registration may now follow group processes, so confirm current requirements with Borouge procurement and HSE before assuming older procedures still apply.

Is Borouge 4 already operating?

The sheet's start-up status for Borouge 4 comes only from a search snippet, so it should not be assumed. It describes the Ruwais complex as being expanded with a new ethane cracker and polyethylene plants. Confirm current status with Borouge. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch with no certificate.
