Tank farms
Private and public tank farms sit near the port; Indian Oil reports crude storage at Kandla, and Parker Agrochem and Aegis rent liquid storage capacity. Several operators therefore work in one area.
Kandla is a major Indian port on the Gulf of Kutch, officially renamed Deendayal Port in 2017, handling large volumes of liquid and bulk cargo. The port authority operates at three locations along the Gulf of Kutch: Kandla Creek, Tuna Tekra and the offshore oil terminal at Vadinar. Distribution partners for Kandla (Deendayal Port), Gujarat are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Kandla (Deendayal Port), Gujarat has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Kandla India. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Private and public tank farms sit near the port; Indian Oil reports crude storage at Kandla, and Parker Agrochem and Aegis rent liquid storage capacity. Several operators therefore work in one area.
The Ministry of Ports announced further oil jetties and a new cargo port to separate dry and liquid cargo, so project work is ongoing.
The port supports the hinterland of north, west and central India and lies about 430 nautical miles north-north-west of Mumbai.
The hottest months are April and May, with a maximum of about 40 degrees Celsius, and the coldest are December and January, with a minimum around 12 degrees.
It lies on Kandla Creek, about 90 kilometres from the mouth of the Gulf of Kutch, with a natural tidal harbour protected from waves during the monsoon.
Seven oil jetties on the western bank of Kandla Creek handle tankers from 40,000 to 65,000 deadweight tonnes, with the deepest, jetty 7, offering a 13 metre draft.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In Kandla (Deendayal Port), Gujarat. Surveys and checks on tanker loading gantries, jetties and tank farms require people to move between assets while logging readings and photographs. An intrinsically safe handheld suits this because it limits energy by design. The IS-04Z1 is designed for the purpose, pending certification.
A distributor for Kandla (Deendayal Port), Gujarat would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.
Likely candidates are oil and chemical jetties, liquid storage tank farms, tanker loading gantries, lpg handling. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Kandla (Deendayal Port), Gujarat.
Deendayal Port Authority runs an offshore oil terminal at Vadinar as one of its three locations, and it contributes strongly to the port's income. Contractors may work at both sites, with separate access procedures.
April and May are driest but hottest, the monsoon runs from June to September, and visibility is generally good except in rain and storms. Confirm schedules with the port and tide tables.
It can be. New oil jetties and a planned cargo port mean new classified areas and more contractors on site. Project teams usually specify equipment early, so enquire in good time. Confirm with the port or the project contractor who sets the equipment requirements.
