Refinery access
Daura refinery lies in a district on the edge of the city; visits and deliveries to refineries normally need operator-issued permits and advance planning.
Baghdad is Iraq's capital and the headquarters of the Ministry of Oil and State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO). Umm Qasr port in the south is linked to Baghdad by railway, so heavy equipment often arrives via the south and moves north by road or rail. An intrinsically safe mobile phone distributor in Baghdad would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Baghdad has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Baghdad. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The companies on site and the hazardous-area types a handset is likely to meet there.

Summer maximum temperatures average around 44 C with dry sunshine, which matters for the thermal limits of handheld devices used outdoors.
The Communications and Media Commission, which issues telecom type approvals valid for one year, is based in Baghdad and works with registered local partners.
Baghdad International Airport, the base of Iraqi Airways, opened in 1982 and reopened in August 2000, while Baghdad Airport Road is one of the named main routes linking the airport and the city.
The city is described as a primary financial and commercial centre of the region, so business meetings and approvals are often held here even when the work is elsewhere.
Baghdad is on the Tigris with an estimated population of about 8 million, about 22 percent of Iraq's people, so it holds the deepest pool of technical and administrative staff.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In Baghdad. Operators in Baghdad run inspection rounds through refinery units, tank farms and pumping stations, where a worker needs a phone for photos, permits and reporting while moving between classified areas. An intrinsically safe handheld suits that work because energy in the circuit is limited, which is why the IS-04Z1 is designed on that principle.
A distributor for Baghdad would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, fuel and lpg storage, pipeline pumping stations. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Baghdad.
The Communications and Media Commission issues type approval certificates, valid for one year, through a registered local partner. Ask your distributor to confirm the approval for each model.
Temperatures commonly exceed 46 degrees Celsius from May to October. Batteries lose life quickly in vehicles and on open sites, so choose devices rated for high temperatures and avoid leaving them in direct sun.
Yes. Summers are very hot and dry, and thermal limits matter for devices used outdoors. Check the ambient temperature range stated in the certificate once issued, avoid leaving the phone in direct sun and charge only in a safe area. Confirm any limits with the site operator.
