Jordan: who works there
Jordan Phosphate Mines Company, founded in 1949, operates three mines and a chemical and fertiliser manufacturing complex in Aqaba, which it took over when it bought Jordan Fertilizer in 1986.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Jordan every shift: potash and phosphate plant operators, refinery crews at Zarqa, port operators at Aqaba, and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. Aqaba, at the north-eastern tip of the Red Sea, is Jordan's only seaport and is run by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, with King Hussein International Airport nearby for equipment arrivals. Distribution partners for Jordan are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Jordan has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Jordan Phosphate Mines Company, founded in 1949, operates three mines and a chemical and fertiliser manufacturing complex in Aqaba, which it took over when it bought Jordan Fertilizer in 1986.
The Zarqa refinery produces about 60,000 barrels a day and a fourth expansion, contracted in 2023 to Sinopec Engineering, Technimont and Itochu, is intended to raise this to 150,000 barrels a day.
Modern renewables made up 10% of final energy consumption in 2020, up from 3% in 2015, and developers sell power to the National Electric Power Company, so solar and wind construction is increasing.
In 2021 Jordan's total energy supply was 51% oil, 38% gas, 3% coal and 8% renewables, so fuel storage, gas networks and power stations form its main flammable-materials infrastructure.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In Jordan. Operators at Dead Sea works, Eshidiya and the Zarqa refinery cover large sites, so a handheld carried across zones saves return trips. An intrinsically safe device lets crews record readings and photograph issues at the point of work. That is the design intent, pending certification and operator approval.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Jordan. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.

Operators commonly work to IEC 60079 and accept ATEX or IECEx certificates, but acceptance is set by each site's own procedure. Ask the operator's HSE team for its approved equipment list and provide certificates, marking details and manufacturer instructions with your request.
The Zarqa refinery, run by the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company, is the best-known, with refining, LPG filling and lubricants activity. Expansion and modernisation projects are planned or under way, so contractors work there. Confirm current access rules and device approvals with the company.
The market guide says Jordan's heaviest classified-area exposure is dust, at potash and phosphate sites, with gas at the refinery and Aqaba. Which applies depends on the area. Ask the operator for the zone classification, covering both dust and gas, before choosing a device.
