Indonesia: rules and approvals
A market-access database lists CE and FCC among other schemes recognised in Indonesia, and notes that expired certificates cannot be renewed and must be tested again as a new model.
A Zone 1 and Zone 21 handset for Indonesian operators, mechanics, inspectors and contractor crews working across an archipelago where the nearest replacement device is often a flight away. This page sets out how an industrial smartphone supply route to Indonesia will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An industrial smartphone for Indonesia cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Indonesia lies between the Indian and Pacific oceans and includes Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi and parts of Borneo and New Guinea, so field, mine and refinery sites face varied tropical conditions.
Indonesia has between 13,000 and 17,000 islands and covers 1,904,569 square kilometres, so shipping, barges and air freight are central to getting equipment to remote oil and mining sites.
Pertamina was the third-largest crude oil producer in Indonesia in 2020, behind Mobil Cepu and Chevron Pacific Indonesia, which shows that foreign-operated fields remain significant.
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Indonesia. Operations spread over several islands make device supply hard, so EMM or MDM enrolment, spare handling and safe-area charging matter. The IS-04Z1 is designed for managed deployment. Contractor crews such as engineering and maintenance firms rotate, and connectivity at remote sites should be agreed before rollout.
Nothing can be bought for Indonesia today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.

Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
SDPPI certification is compulsory for radio and telecom equipment, with local testing and a local representative required, a marking requirement and a three-year validity. Expired certificates must be tested as a new model. Confirm the current rules with SDPPI or an accredited agent before importing.
A market-access database lists CE and FCC as other recognised schemes, but also notes local testing as required for certification. Foreign reports can therefore help but may not replace testing in Indonesia, so confirm the exact approach with SDPPI or an accredited laboratory.
The market guide lists SNI, Komdigi type approval and TKDN work, together with IECEx, as in progress. None has been granted. Requirements for a given project depend on the operator and regulators, so check the current status and ask the site operator before ordering.
