Many small plants
The estate is made up largely of small-scale units rather than one large operator, so purchasing is spread across many firms.
Vapi is an industrial city in Valsad district, Gujarat, on the Daman Ganga river, built around a GIDC industrial estate reported to hold over 1,400 mostly small units. A large share are chemical, dye and pesticide plants, so solvent and process areas need Zone 1 or Zone 2 equipment. If you are specifying an industrial smartphone for Vapi, Gujarat, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Vapi, Gujarat: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Vapi India. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
The estate is made up largely of small-scale units rather than one large operator, so purchasing is spread across many firms.
The GIDC estate dates from 1967 and covers roughly 11 square kilometres, according to published summaries.
Mumbai is roughly 185 kilometres to the south and Surat about 120 kilometres to the north, and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad rail line serves Vapi station.
The city has three seasons, winter, summer and monsoon, with annual rainfall of 250 to 300 centimetres.
Manufacturing accounts for about 40 percent of workers in Vapi, and the city draws labour from all over India because factories need staff at every level.
National Highway 48 bisects the city, with industry and newer housing in the eastern part, and the Arabian Sea is about 7 kilometres to the west.
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Vapi, Gujarat. Most Vapi plants are small units, so a fleet may be a handful of devices under one maintenance manager rather than a large enrolled estate. Even then, MDM or EMM enrolment, app control and a charging point in a safe area should be settled before devices reach the production floor.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.
Likely candidates are solvent storage and handling, chemical reactors and process areas, dye and pesticide manufacturing, effluent and tank areas. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Vapi gets 250 to 300 centimetres of rain a year, mostly in the monsoon season. Choose sealed, water-resistant devices with a suitable ingress rating, and keep spares and chargers in dry storage.
Vapi is on National Highway 48 and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad railway, about 185 kilometres from Mumbai. Most visitors fly into Mumbai or Surat and continue by road.
The plant owner decides, normally through its safety or maintenance manager, based on its own classification. The estate has many small units, so rules differ plant to plant. Ask each plant for its zone drawings and permit procedure before bringing any device on site.
