What “industrial” means for a smartphone
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Spain. Spanish fleets mix operator staff with contractor crews moving between widely separated complexes. EMM and MDM support lets IT configure the handset to site rules and retire it at the end of a contract, with Spanish in the file and on the screen. Charging takes place in safe areas.

Can we buy an industrial mobile phone in Spain today?
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
What does an industrial mobile phone in Spain cost?
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Is the IS-04Z1 an industrial phone as well as an Ex phone?
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.

How will SAMS supply Spain?

Does Spain require ATEX certified handheld devices?
Spain is an EU member, so ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU applies to equipment and Directive 1999/92/EC to zoning. Zone 1 and Zone 2 devices should carry CE and Ex markings with Spanish instructions where required. Refineries typically add their own permit-to-work and device registration rules.
Does Spanish summer heat matter for Ex handheld devices?
Yes, inland and southern summers are very hot and direct sun can raise surface temperatures. Check the maximum ambient rating on the certificate, avoid leaving devices on hot equipment and consider shade or cooling for batteries. Coastal sites also add salt air that affects ports and contacts.
Is Spanish supported on the device?
The sheet states Spanish in the file and on the screen, on Android 16. Language packs and keyboard layouts should be confirmed during an evaluation unit trial, together with any site rules your IT team needs to enforce through EMM or MDM.
