Germany: industry on the ground
In 2025 transport accounted for about 31% of energy consumption, households 28% and industry 26%, so fuel distribution and storage form a large part of the infrastructure.
The IS-04Z1 is an eigensicheres Smartphone designed to ATEX 2014/34/EU for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for the chemical parks, refineries and pharmaceutical plants where most German Ex-Schutz work happens. Germany plans to phase out coal-fired electricity generation by 2038 at the latest and aims for renewables to supply at least 80% of gross electricity consumption by 2030. Distribution partners for Germany are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Germany has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Germany. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

In 2025 transport accounted for about 31% of energy consumption, households 28% and industry 26%, so fuel distribution and storage form a large part of the infrastructure.
BASF says its Ludwigshafen Verbund site covers about ten square kilometres, makes it the world's largest integrated chemical complex, and has 125 production plants, with roughly a third of BASF employees worldwide based there.
Manufacturers may self-certify ATEX Category 3 equipment with a technical dossier including a user manual in the local language, while Category 1 and 2 generally need a notified body.
Norway supplied the largest share of both Germany's gas and crude oil imports in 2025, and German LNG terminals accounted for 10.3% of natural gas imports, so LNG import sites are a new classified-area category.
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Germany. A site such as Ludwigshafen holds hundreds of plants and a changing contractor population. Fleet control through EMM or MDM matters for enrolling devices, applying policy and removing them at contract end. The IS-04Z1 is designed for managed deployment. Charging should be in safe areas, and German-language set-up should be planned.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Germany. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.
The market guide for Germany covers Ludwigshafen, Leverkusen, Marl, Frankfurt Höchst, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.

Germany applies ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU for equipment and the employer-side Directive 1999/92/EC through national workplace law. Devices for Zone 1 and Zone 2 should carry CE and Ex markings with German-language instructions. Individual plants usually add their own device approval rules.
Typically the EU declaration of conformity, the ATEX or IECEx certificate, the Ex marking details and instructions in German. The operator's explosion protection document defines the zones. Provide a clear device marking photo so the site's inspector can match it to the zone.
Chemical park operators generally set contractor rules, including which devices are permitted in each zone. Requirements differ between parks. Ask the site operator about device approval, permits and registration, and about any managed-device policy, before bringing a handset to site.
