North Oil Company: who works there
North Oil Company and North Gas Company are the current operators of the Kirkuk fields, with operatorship planned to move to an unincorporated organisation made up mainly of their own personnel.
North Oil Company is a state-owned Iraqi company under the Ministry of Oil, headquartered in Kirkuk. It operates the Kirkuk, Bai Hassan, Jambur and Khabbaz fields, and a redevelopment contract for these fields was signed with bp in 2025. This page sets out how an IECEx smartphone supply route to North Oil Company will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An IECEx smartphone for North Oil Company cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Iraq. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
North Oil Company and North Gas Company are the current operators of the Kirkuk fields, with operatorship planned to move to an unincorporated organisation made up mainly of their own personnel.
Kirkuk is reported to have three pay zones, with the Tertiary reservoir holding about 98 per cent of recoverable reserves, so production is concentrated in a small number of formations.
The contract covers rehabilitation, redevelopment and optimisation of producing fields, so work is brownfield, with new equipment installed beside operating plant.
North Oil Company is one of 16 companies owned by Iraq's Ministry of Oil and is headquartered in Kirkuk, with a licence area running from the northern border down to the 32.5th parallel, just south of Baghdad.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In North Oil Company. Redevelopment of northern fields brings international engineering and service firms to Kirkuk, and they tend to work from IECEx paperwork. Their reviewers look for the certificate of conformity and its schedule of conditions. IECEx is a target for the IS-04Z1 and remains in progress, so North Oil Company staff should read it as a planned route rather than a held approval.
There is no stock to order for North Oil Company yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, certification is in progress, and supply will run through authorised distributors after the certificates are issued. Procurement teams can prepare now with the datasheet, the certification schedule and a safe-area evaluation.

Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Possibly. bp's contractor company has agreed terms for ConocoPhillips to hold 42 per cent, subject to approvals, although the framework and the operators' role do not change. Equipment approvals typically stay with the operating company, so ask the operator and the main contractor.
Iraq's Communications and Media Commission handles type approval, usually through a locally registered partner, following EU-style compliance procedures. Confirm current requirements before shipping, and also ask the operator about security vetting and site rules for personal and portable electronic devices.
Only if its protection suits the zone and gas group of the specific location. A phone designed around intrinsic safety, with a marking such as the IS-04Z1 target, would be assessed against the operator's drawings. Seek the area classification from North Oil Company first; certification for the IS-04Z1 is in progress.
