Yard locations
Seatrium's Singapore yards are listed at Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard; ST Engineering operates the Gul and Benoi yards.
Seatrium's Tuas Boulevard Yard has a graving dock about 350 metres long and 66 metres wide, which can take very large tankers and floating production units. Tank work, repair and conversion create Zone 1 conditions on vessels. This page explains what to look for in an IECEx smartphone for Singapore marine and shipyard sector, and where the IS-04Z1 stands against that list today.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Singapore marine and shipyard sector: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Singapore Marine. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The companies on site and the hazardous-area types a handset is likely to meet there.
Seatrium's Singapore yards are listed at Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard; ST Engineering operates the Gul and Benoi yards.
Seatrium describes itself as formed from the 2023 merger of Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Offshore & Marine, so older references to separate yards under those names are out of date.
Heat, humidity and heavy showers are constant, so shipyard crews and handheld devices face both corrosion and moisture ingress year round.
Repair scope includes LNG and LPG carriers, cruise ships and ferries, floating production vessels, jack-ups, tankers, container ships and heavy-lift vessels, as well as jumboisation work.
Seatrium's Singapore ship repair yards are Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard, with offshore-specific Crescent and Pandan yards in addition.
Tuas Port, opened in September 2022, is planned to handle 65 million TEU a year in the 2040s, moving more container traffic to the western end of the island.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Singapore marine and shipyard sector. Seatrium's yards handle vessels and offshore units owned by international operators, so visiting superintendents are likely to know IECEx. A certificate of conformity and its schedule of conditions are what they would want. Neither exists yet for the IS-04Z1, since the IECEx programme is still in progress.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
Likely candidates are vessel tank and cargo spaces, repair and conversion work, paint and coating areas, offshore unit conversion. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Zones move with the vessel's cargo, tank status and gas-free certification, so a space may be classified one day and safe the next. Always check the vessel's permit and gas-freeing status rather than relying on a fixed plan.
Seatrium publishes its yard addresses, but access is normally arranged through a named project sponsor with induction, site pass and permit-to-work steps. Ask the sponsor which equipment certifications they accept before you ship devices.
Tank entry normally follows per-vessel gas-free and permit procedures set by the yard, and Zone 1 conditions are assumed in tank spaces. Only equipment with suitable certification would be considered, and the IS-04Z1 is not yet certified. Ask the yard safety team.
