Salalah is the capital of Dhofar Governorate, with a major port and the adjacent Salalah Free Zone, a subsidiary of Asyad Group. OQ Base Industries runs Oman's integrated methanol, ammonia and LPG complex in the free zone, which is where most hazardous-area work is found. An IECEx smartphone distributor in Salalah would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

The Port of Salalah is a large transshipment hub, and the free zone sits next to it.
The khareef monsoon runs from June to September, with fog and cloud in July and August, so conditions differ sharply from northern Oman's dry heat.
Oman's TRA type approval is valid for four years and needs a local representative and a compliance mark for telecom equipment.
The city has a hot desert climate, but summers are cooler than in northern or inland Oman.
The Salalah Free Zone beside the port is developing as a centre for heavy industries, so most hazardous-area activity is at the port zone rather than the city.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Salalah. The free zone sits beside a large transshipment port, so international operators, terminal companies and visiting contractors are present, and many work to IECEx. The scheme supplies a certificate of conformity plus a schedule of conditions. IS-04Z1 IECEx certification is in progress, so nothing is issued.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Salalah yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.

There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
Likely candidates are methanol and ammonia production, lpg extraction and storage, port liquid bulk handling. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
