IECEx Smartphone Distributor in Portugal
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, aimed at the refining and polymer complex at Sines, the chemical plants at Estarreja and the pulp, cement and mining sites in between. The Sines LNG import terminal has three storage tanks with a total capacity of 390,000 cubic metres and regasification capacity of 5.6 million tonnes a year, making Sines Portugal's key gas import site. An IECEx smartphone distributor in Portugal would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

Galp Energia, formed in 1999 from Petrogal, Gás de Portugal and Transgás, is Portugal's largest oil and gas group, with business units covering upstream, refining and midstream, commercial, and renewables.

The Sines hard coal power plant operated from 1985-1989 until January 2021 and coal-fired generation ended in 2021, so former coal sites are being redeveloped.

What “IECEx” means for a smartphone
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Portugal. Sines and Estarreja involve international groups such as Repsol and Dow, plus EPC and maintenance contractors, so IECEx offers a shared scheme beside ATEX. Ask for the certificate of conformity and its schedule of conditions, which fix the marking, ambient range and conditions of use. The IS-04Z1 has none yet issued, and the programme is in progress.

Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Portugal. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.

Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
What does an IECEx smartphone in Portugal cost?
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Does the IS-04Z1 hold an IECEx certificate?
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.

Does Portugal follow ATEX for handheld devices?
Portugal is an EU member, so ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU applies to equipment and Directive 1999/92/EC to workplace zoning. Zone 1 and Zone 2 devices should carry CE and Ex markings with instructions in Portuguese where required. Operators usually add their own permit and registration procedures.
Why is Sines important for hazardous-area work in Portugal?
Sines hosts Portugal's LNG import terminal, with three storage tanks totalling 390,000 cubic metres and a regasification capacity of 5.6 million tonnes a year. Terminal and port operators set their own induction and device rules, so confirm them before sending equipment.
Is dust protection part of the programme?
Yes, Zone 21 dust protection belongs to the same certification programme as the gas marking. In pulp, cement and mineral processing the powder area is the plant, not a corner of it, so check the final certificate and the site's own dust classification with the operator.
