Port and industry
Incheon ranks second after Busan and has industrial complexes at Bupyeong, Juan and Namdong.
Incheon is South Korea's second largest port, west of Seoul, and forms the heart of the Capital Industrial Region with the Bupyeong, Juan and Namdong industrial complexes. KOGAS runs an LNG terminal there, where tank and send-out areas create Zone 1 and Zone 2 conditions. Distribution partners for Incheon are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026

A programme launched in 2007 aims to make Incheon as proficient in English as Singapore, which suggests English is more widely usable in the Free Economic Zone than in most Korean industrial cities.
In 2003 Incheon became South Korea's first free economic zone, and large local and global companies have since invested in the Incheon Free Economic Zone, including bio-industry projects at Songdo.
Incheon has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons, cold north-westerly winds in winter and warm south-westerly gusts in summer, plus a strong urban heat island effect.
Incheon International Airport and Incheon Port make the city a transport hub for north-east Asia, and port traffic is large enough to classify it as a large-port metropolis.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Incheon. Incheon is a major gateway port, so LNG carrier crews, inspectors and international contractors visit regularly. IECEx suits them because a certificate of conformity and schedule of conditions read the same everywhere. The IS-04Z1 has neither yet, as certification is in progress.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Incheon yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
Likely candidates are lng storage tanks, lng jetty and loading, gas send-out, industrial complex chemical handling. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Incheon.
English is promoted through the Incheon Free English Zone programme and is more widely used in the Free Economic Zone, but safety documents at industrial plants are normally in Korean. Ask the operator whether English induction materials are available.
Yes. The airport and the port are both major hubs, and Incheon sits next to Seoul and the Capital Industrial Region. Air freight is quick, but allow time for customs, radio and safety approvals, and confirm requirements with your forwarder.
Winters on the west coast are cold, and low temperatures reduce battery capacity in any phone. The IS-04Z1 has a 4,000 mAh battery and certification in progress, with no cold-weather figures stated here. Ask for a trial in winter conditions and confirm with the site operator.
