Coastal climate
The setting is general hot, humid coastal conditions with salty air and monsoon rain, which favours sealed, corrosion-resistant devices.
It is the first terminal in India to load LNG into trucks, with four truck-loading bays, and acts as a hub for small-scale LNG for customers without pipeline access. It hosts Petronet LNG's terminal and petrochemical and liquid-handling operations, so gas, LNG and chemical handling create Zone 1 areas. If you are specifying an IECEx mobile phone for Dahej, Gujarat, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Dahej, Gujarat: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Petronet LNG reported the Dahej terminal expanded from 17.5 to 22.5 million tonnes a year, with the additional capacity commissioned by 31 March 2026. A third jetty for LNG, ethane and propane is being built.
The hinterland is being developed as a special economic zone of 30,000 hectares, with the four-lane highway being widened to six lanes and the rail line upgraded to broad gauge sidings.
The chemical port terminal can handle liquid cargo at up to 25,000 tonnes a day, and a bulk facility unloads up to 30,000 tonnes a day, so liquid and dust hazards both occur on the waterfront.
Tides at Dahej are large: high water can rise 10 to 11 metres, and vessels anchor about 5.5 kilometres from the old port, so marine work depends on tide tables.
Dahej has two LNG jetties, the first for Q-Flex vessels and the second for Q-Max carriers, and had handled 3,538 cargoes by 30 September 2024.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Dahej, Gujarat. Contractors and project teams at Dahej include international firms working on LNG expansion and petrochemical packages. Such teams usually compare IECEx certificates of conformity and schedules of conditions between projects. The IS-04Z1 is being assessed on this route, and nothing has been issued to date.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
Likely candidates are lng storage and regasification, ethane and propane handling, marine jetties, petrochemical plants. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
The nearest airports are Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara, with Bharuch about 45 kilometres from the port. Road transfer is the norm, and sites usually require advance gate passes and induction.
April and May are very hot, and the monsoon brings about 800 millimetres of rain between June and September. Choose water-resistant devices with a wide operating temperature range and check the datasheet.
New jetties, storage and process areas will carry their own classification once designed, and these may differ from existing ones. Treat each area on its own record. Confirm the zone, gas group and temperature class with the terminal operator for any new or modified area.
