Spain: background
REPESA was incorporated in 1948 to build a refinery in the Escombreras valley at Cartagena, so Cartagena is among Spain's oldest refining and chemical locations.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for the refineries, chemical parks and LNG terminals from Bilbao to the Campo de Gibraltar. This page sets out how an IECEx cell phone supply route to Spain will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An IECEx cell phone for Spain cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Spain. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The classified areas, operators and sites below are the ones covered in the SAMS Spain market guide.
REPESA was incorporated in 1948 to build a refinery in the Escombreras valley at Cartagena, so Cartagena is among Spain's oldest refining and chemical locations.
In 2020 Spain's primary energy came from petroleum (42.3%), natural gas (19.8%), coal (11.6%), nuclear (12%) and renewables (14.3%), so refining, gas and power sites all matter.
Renewables supplied 46.7% of power consumption in 2021 and Spain was the first country to rely on wind as its top energy source for a full year, so wind and solar construction is a large workload.
The Port of Tarragona has doubled its bulk-liquid storage area to 36 hectares, holds over 900,000 cubic metres of storage and serves chemical plants through a common pipeline rack, the Dixquimics Rack, with 71 lines.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Spain. IECEx is relevant in Spain through multinational operators and contractors, such as BP at Castellón and Dow at Tarragona, that standardise on the international scheme across sites. A certificate of conformity with its schedule of conditions lets their HSE teams compare the handset with a common reference. For the IS-04Z1 it remains in progress.
There is no stock to order for Spain yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, certification is in progress, and supply will run through authorised distributors after the certificates are issued. Procurement teams can prepare now with the datasheet, the certification schedule and a safe-area evaluation.

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
The market guide for Spain covers Tarragona, Cartagena and Escombreras, Huelva, Campo de Gibraltar, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Cartagena's Escombreras valley is among the oldest refinery locations, and Repsol and other operators run refining and chemical sites on the coasts. Details change, so confirm the current site list and each operator's contractor requirements before planning work.
Gas entry points, regasification plants and compressor stations are likely Zone 1 or Zone 2 areas, so check the device's gas group and temperature class against the site's classification drawings. Operators typically also require device registration and induction, so allow time before a shutdown.
It is designed with IP68 sealing and a rugged build for heat, salt and wash-down. The T4 target is judged against the ambient range on the certificate, which is in progress. Check that range against peak August temperatures at your plant before specifying.
