Finland: infrastructure
About 2.8 million Finns rely on district heating, so combined heat and power plants and fuel handling sites exist in nearly every town.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for the refinery and polymer plants at Kilpilahti, the metal and chemical parks on the Bothnian coast and the mill and mine sites where a winter round is measured in kilometres. Buyers searching for an IECEx cell phone supplier for Finland can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An IECEx cell phone for Finland cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Finland. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The main operators, industrial areas and sites that the SAMS Finland market guide covers.
About 2.8 million Finns rely on district heating, so combined heat and power plants and fuel handling sites exist in nearly every town.
Bioenergy and waste make up 33.6% of total energy supply and peat 2.7%, with Finland one of the last countries still burning peat, which brings fuel-dust handling into power and heat plants.
Energy use per capita is the highest in the EU, partly because of energy-intensive industry, a cold climate and long distances, so winter operation of handheld equipment is a normal planning point.
The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency, Tukes, monitors safety in technology, chemicals and hazardous materials, with divisions for facilities and mines and for products and equipment, and is Finland's competent authority for REACH, CLP and Seveso III.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Finland. Finland hosts operators such as Neste and Borealis Polymers, and large plants draw in international contractors for shutdowns. For them the international scheme is a familiar reference: a certificate of conformity names the equipment, and its schedule of conditions lists any special conditions of use. IECEx certification for the IS-04Z1 is in progress, so nothing can be cited yet.
Nothing can be bought for Finland today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.
The technical specification, marking target and conditions of use, sent by email.
Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Yes, because fuel dust from wood, biomass and peat is combustible, so dust zones such as Zone 21 and Zone 22 matter alongside gas zones. Choose devices with dust group marking suitable for the site's classification drawings and the operator's own requirements.
Winter temperatures can fall well below the minimum rating of ordinary electronics, and battery capacity drops in the cold. Check the lowest rated ambient temperature on the certificate, glove-friendly touch operation and whether charging must happen indoors outside the classified area.
Gate procedures and contractor rules are set by the operator and the site authority, so requirements vary. A contractor would normally be asked for evidence that a device suits the zones it enters. Check the rules with the site before bringing any device in.
