Nigeria: industry on the ground
Nigeria LNG's plant on Bonny Island began production in 1999 and now has six liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 22 million tonnes a year of LNG, alongside natural gas liquids for export.
A Zone 1 / Zone 21 smartphone for crews on Niger Delta flow stations, deepwater FPSOs, export terminals and the refining complexes at Lekki and Eleme. Buyers searching for a hazardous area smartphone supplier for Nigeria can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. A hazardous area smartphone for Nigeria cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Nigeria LNG's plant on Bonny Island began production in 1999 and now has six liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 22 million tonnes a year of LNG, alongside natural gas liquids for export.
The Dangote Refinery at Lekki, Lagos was commissioned in May 2023, began operations in January 2024 and has a stated capacity of 700,000 barrels a day.
The Delta states of Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers form the historic core of the region, which is petroleum-rich and has been the centre of international attention for its oil industry.
The Niger Delta extends over about 70,000 square kilometres, around 7.5 per cent of Nigeria's land area, between the Bight of Benin and the Bight of Bonny.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Nigeria. Classified areas here split three ways: onshore Delta production around Port Harcourt and Warri, deepwater FPSOs offshore, and downstream plants at Lekki and Eleme with product terminals at Lagos and Apapa. The Onne free zone supports supply. Operators classify their own areas, so SAMS provides no drawings.
There is no stock to order for Nigeria yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, certification is in progress, and supply will run through authorised distributors after the certificates are issued. Procurement teams can prepare now with the datasheet, the certification schedule and a safe-area evaluation.
The technical specification, marking target and conditions of use, sent by email.
Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
The market guide for Nigeria covers Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Warri and Escravos, Bonny Island, Lekki Free Zone, Lagos, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
The Delta is typically a low-lying, hot and humid region with heavy seasonal rain, so corrosion and moisture are common concerns. Check ingress protection, corrosion resistance and the operating temperature range, and ask the operator about site transport, such as boat or helicopter, and device rules.
A large new refinery is operated by its owner, which applies its own site HSE, permit and equipment requirements alongside Nigerian law. Contractors should ask the operator for its induction, permit-to-work and approved-equipment procedures rather than assuming the practices of other Nigerian sites.
The programme lists IECEx for hazardous area use and SONCAP and NCC steps for national conformity and the radio, all in progress. Nothing is yet issued. Ask your supplier and the site operator which documents your procurement and HSE teams will require before purchase.
