Port and hinterland
Dahej is a deep-water cargo port handling LNG, chemicals, coal and petroleum products, with a large Special Economic Zone in its hinterland and rail and road links.
Dahej is a cargo port and industrial area in Bharuch district on the Gulf of Khambhat, Gujarat. Port users include Petronet LNG, the Gujarat Chemical Port Terminal Company, ONGC OPAL, Birla Copper, Torrent Pharmaceuticals and Reliance Industries, each with its own jetty or facility. If you are specifying a hazardous area smartphone for Dahej, Gujarat, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Dahej, Gujarat: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Dahej India. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Dahej is a deep-water cargo port handling LNG, chemicals, coal and petroleum products, with a large Special Economic Zone in its hinterland and rail and road links.
The setting is general hot, humid coastal conditions with salty air and monsoon rain, which favours sealed, corrosion-resistant devices.
Petronet LNG's Dahej terminal has a capacity of 17.5 million tonnes a year with eight LNG storage tanks and is being expanded to 22.5 million tonnes in two phases.
The nearest airports are at Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara, and Bharuch, about 45 kilometres away, is being connected to Dahej by a broad-gauge rail siding.
It is the first terminal in India to load LNG into trucks, with four truck-loading bays, and acts as a hub for small-scale LNG for customers without pipeline access.
The port lies in the Gulf of Cambay at the junction of the Guljaria and Ban creeks and is a natural deep-water port taking vessels with a draft of up to 25 metres.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Dahej, Gujarat. Hazardous areas at Dahej include LNG storage and regasification, ethane and propane handling, marine jetties, petrochemical plants and liquid chemical tank terminals. Operators such as Petronet LNG, OPaL and GCPTCL are responsible for classifying their areas. PESO is the national regulator, and SAMS makes no classification decisions.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are lng storage and regasification, ethane and propane handling, marine jetties, petrochemical plants. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
The nearest airports are Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara, with Bharuch about 45 kilometres from the port. Road transfer is the norm, and sites usually require advance gate passes and induction.
April and May are very hot, and the monsoon brings about 800 millimetres of rain between June and September. Choose water-resistant devices with a wide operating temperature range and check the datasheet.
New jetties, storage and process areas will carry their own classification once designed, and these may differ from existing ones. Treat each area on its own record. Confirm the zone, gas group and temperature class with the terminal operator for any new or modified area.
