Daesan is a petrochemical complex in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, on the Yellow Sea coast. Seosan had a population of roughly 175,000 in the 2017 census, which sets the scale of the local labour pool beside the coastal industrial area. If you are specifying a hazardous area smartphone for Daesan, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Daesan: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Daesan. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

A hydrogen shipment centre began operating at the Daesan plant in November 2025.
Daesan lies within Seosan city on the Yellow Sea coast of South Chungcheong Province, about 125 km south of Seoul and 34 km north-west of Naepo New Town.
The Daesan refining and petrochemical platform is a 50/50 joint venture between Hanwha and TotalEnergies, commissioned in 1991 and covering about 3.3 million square metres, making fuels and polymers on one integrated site.
In spring, strong winds carry fine Asian dust from the Chinese mainland, prompting many residents to wear masks, so dust protection and cleaning matter for equipment used outdoors.
Seosan is the west coast transport hub where the Seohaean and Daejeon-Dangjin Expressways and National Highways 29, 32, 38 and 45 meet, which helps trucking and equipment delivery.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Daesan. Classified areas at Daesan are the naphtha cracker and petrochemical units, refinery process units, tank farms and hydrogen handling. The operators classify them, not SAMS. Because the operator was newly merged from two companies, procedures may still be changing, so ask which document currently governs.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are naphtha cracker and petrochemical units, refinery process units, tank farms, hydrogen handling. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Daesan is part of Seosan on the Yellow Sea coast, about 125 km south of Seoul, and the area is served by the Seohaean Expressway and several national highways. Most visitors travel by road from Seoul or Daejeon, so plan equipment transport accordingly.
Spring Asian dust, a short but heavy summer monsoon, occasional typhoons and cold winters all occur. Typically devices need good dust and water ingress protection and a reliable battery in the cold, and sites may pause outdoor work in severe weather.
Yes. Hydrogen is a Group IIC gas, so equipment for those areas needs a suitable gas-group marking. The IS-04Z1 target marking includes IIC but no certificate has been issued. Ask the operator which Daesan areas it classes as hydrogen hazards.
