Spain: infrastructure
Spain had 4.1 GW of coal capacity in December 2021 and consumed 6.5 million tonnes of coal in 2022, with a plan to phase coal out by 2030, so coal-handling sites remain active for now.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for the refineries, chemical parks and LNG terminals from Bilbao to the Campo de Gibraltar. Gas for power generation rose 52% in 2022 and total gas demand was 364.3 TWh, so gas-fired power stations and distribution networks have heavy maintenance and expansion work. A hazardous area smartphone distributor in Spain would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Spain has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Spain. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The classified areas, operators and sites below are the ones covered in the SAMS Spain market guide.
Spain had 4.1 GW of coal capacity in December 2021 and consumed 6.5 million tonnes of coal in 2022, with a plan to phase coal out by 2030, so coal-handling sites remain active for now.
Repsol is vertically integrated across exploration, refining, distribution, petrochemicals and power, with subsidiaries including Repsol Petróleo, Repsol Química, Repsol Exploración and Petronor.
REPESA was incorporated in 1948 to build a refinery in the Escombreras valley at Cartagena, so Cartagena is among Spain's oldest refining and chemical locations.
In 2020 Spain's primary energy came from petroleum (42.3%), natural gas (19.8%), coal (11.6%), nuclear (12%) and renewables (14.3%), so refining, gas and power sites all matter.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Spain. Spanish classified areas are dense, widely separated islands: the Repsol complexes, Moeve at Huelva and Campo de Gibraltar, BP at Castellón, the Tarragona chemical belt and a large network of regasification terminals. Each operator classifies its own areas. SAMS does not classify any area and designs only for a stated one.
A distributor for Spain would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Spain is an EU member, so ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU applies to equipment and Directive 1999/92/EC to zoning. Zone 1 and Zone 2 devices should carry CE and Ex markings with Spanish instructions where required. Refineries typically add their own permit-to-work and device registration rules.
Yes, inland and southern summers are very hot and direct sun can raise surface temperatures. Check the maximum ambient rating on the certificate, avoid leaving devices on hot equipment and consider shade or cooling for batteries. Coastal sites also add salt air that affects ports and contacts.
The sheet states Spanish in the file and on the screen, on Android 16. Language packs and keyboard layouts should be confirmed during an evaluation unit trial, together with any site rules your IT team needs to enforce through EMM or MDM.
