Offshore climate
Salt, humidity and heat are normal, so equipment is commonly checked onshore before it goes offshore.
The Campos Basin covers about 115,000 km2, almost all of it offshore, with only about 500 km2 onshore near Rio de Janeiro, and is one of 12 coastal sedimentary basins in Brazil. In December 2025 it had 39 platforms in operation, 18 of them FPSOs, creating Zone 1 areas on process decks and in storage and offloading areas. Distribution partners for Campos Basin are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Campos Basin has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Campos Basin. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The companies on site and the hazardous-area types a handset is likely to meet there.
Salt, humidity and heat are normal, so equipment is commonly checked onshore before it goes offshore.
The basin produced 828,600 barrels of oil equivalent a day in 2025, well below its 2011 peak, with many older units needing regular maintenance.
By 2003 some 41 oil and gas fields had been discovered 50 to 140 km from the coast in water 80 to 2,400 m deep, and the basin was producing about 1.21 million barrels per day.
A 65 million barrel discovery was announced by Petrobras near the Barracuda field in February 2010, showing continued exploration activity in this mature basin.
Production comes from varied reservoir types, including turbidite sandstones, fractured basalts, coquinas and limestones, which leads to a mix of facility designs and well services across the basin.
Roncador ranked first among the top fields of the Santos, Campos and Espirito Santo basins in 2010 at 129.7 million barrels of oil equivalent, and the Campos Basin had eight discoveries in 2011.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Campos Basin. Platform process modules, wellhead areas, crude storage and offloading, and gas compression are the classified areas present. Each operator classifies its own units, and SAMS does not. The basin covers about 115,000 square kilometres, so the classification evidence is gathered platform by platform.
A distributor for Campos Basin would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are platform process modules, wellhead areas, crude storage and offloading, gas compression. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Campos Basin.
Macae hosts Petrobras' basin base, an airport with offshore helicopter operations and over 4,000 companies set up in the city. That concentration makes it the usual staging point for spares and servicing. Confirm freight, customs and storage arrangements with your local contractor.
Mostly by helicopter from the Macae area, with some supply by sea. Fields lie 50 to 140 km offshore, so transfers are weather dependent. Confirm helicopter operator rules about batteries and powered devices, and ask whether your equipment must be stowed or certified for the aircraft.
Largely at Macae, which handles people and supplies for the basin and has the Imbetiba port and an airport used for offshore flights. Equipment is commonly checked onshore first. Confirm approvals, documentation and delivery routes with the operator and its contractors.
