Seatrium cites around 60 years of design and construction of rigs, floaters, offshore platforms and specialised vessels, plus repair, upgrading and conversion of ship types.
Singapore's marine sector centres on ship repair, conversion and offshore yards, led by Seatrium, formed in 2023 from Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Offshore & Marine. Seatrium's Tuas Boulevard Yard has a graving dock about 350 metres long and 66 metres wide, which can take very large tankers and floating production units. If you are specifying a hazardous area mobile phone for Singapore marine and shipyard sector, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Singapore marine and shipyard sector: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Singapore Marine. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Seatrium cites around 60 years of design and construction of rigs, floaters, offshore platforms and specialised vessels, plus repair, upgrading and conversion of ship types.
Seatrium's Singapore yards are listed at Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard; ST Engineering operates the Gul and Benoi yards.
Seatrium organises its business into oil and gas newbuilds and conversions, renewables and new energies, specialised shipbuilding, and repairs and upgrades, all based around Singapore.
Singapore sold 56.775 million tonnes of marine fuel in 2025, the largest bunkering volume of any port, so tanker, barge and fuel-transfer operations are a daily feature of its waters.
Workplace safety in yards and on vessels falls under MOM's Workplace Safety and Health framework, and marine bunkering facilities are named among Singapore's common explosive-atmosphere locations.
Heat, humidity and heavy showers are constant, so shipyard crews and handheld devices face both corrosion and moisture ingress year round.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Singapore marine and shipyard sector. The hazardous areas in this sector are vessel tank and cargo spaces, repair and conversion work, paint and coating areas and offshore unit conversion. Yards and vessel owners classify them, and conditions change with each vessel. SAMS does not classify areas, so a specifier should ask the yard safety team.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are vessel tank and cargo spaces, repair and conversion work, paint and coating areas, offshore unit conversion. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Zones move with the vessel's cargo, tank status and gas-free certification, so a space may be classified one day and safe the next. Always check the vessel's permit and gas-freeing status rather than relying on a fixed plan.
Seatrium publishes its yard addresses, but access is normally arranged through a named project sponsor with induction, site pass and permit-to-work steps. Ask the sponsor which equipment certifications they accept before you ship devices.
Tank entry normally follows per-vessel gas-free and permit procedures set by the yard, and Zone 1 conditions are assumed in tank spaces. Only equipment with suitable certification would be considered, and the IS-04Z1 is not yet certified. Ask the yard safety team.
