Hazardous Area Mobile Phone Distributor in Singapore

The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Zone 1 and Zone 21 handset for people who work inside classified areas on Jurong Island, at Pulau Bukom and around the Tuas terminals: process operators, inspection and maintenance engineers, turnaround crews and the WSH and IT teams who equip them. Energy and chemicals is Singapore's second-largest manufacturing sector, with more than 100 global chemicals companies operating here, which keeps a steady flow of maintenance and turnaround work in classified areas. Distribution partners for Singapore are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.

More about Singapore that matters for portable equipment

Singapore: infrastructure

Natural gas now supplies over 90 percent of Singapore's electricity generation, up from under 20 percent in 2000, and the LNG terminal sends out about 9 million tonnes a year as its average capacity.

Singapore: rules and approvals

The Ministry of Manpower enforces explosive-atmosphere duties under the Workplace Safety and Health Act, while the Singapore Civil Defence Force regulates flammable-materials storage under the Fire Safety Act.

Singapore: logistics and access

Singapore sold 56.775 million tonnes of marine fuel in 2025, making it the largest bunkering port in the world by a wide margin and keeping fuel handling and barge work active around the clock.

Singapore: projects and investment

SLNG plans a second LNG terminal offshore, slated to operate by the end of the decade, in addition to the existing Jurong Island terminal, so new gas-handling sites are expected over the coming years.

The term · hazardous area

What “hazardous area” means for a smartphone

A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.

No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.

In Singapore. Classified areas in Singapore are concentrated on Jurong Island, Pulau Bukom, the island storage terminals and the Tuas yards, with underground storage at the Jurong Rock Caverns. The operator classifies each of these areas and decides which gas groups apply. SAMS provides no classification and designs the device for a stated one.

The route · distribution

Distributing the IS-04Z1 in Singapore

SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Singapore yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.

What SAMS looks for in a partner

Operator relationships
Existing supplier registrations or a clear route to them with the main operators and contractors in Singapore.
Ex-competent staff
People who understand zone classification, markings and the conditions of a certificate.

And equally important

Local-language support
Documentation, training and helpdesk in the languages the workforce uses.
Service capability
Spares, battery replacement and repair routed through SAMS-approved channels.
Questions · Singapore

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy a hazardous area mobile phone in Singapore today?

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.

What does a hazardous area mobile phone in Singapore cost?

SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.

Which hazardous areas is the IS-04Z1 designed for?

Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Which sites in Singapore does this cover?

The market guide for Singapore covers Jurong Island, Pulau Bukom, Seraya and Merbau, Pulau Sebarok and Pulau Busing, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.

How do I become a SAMS distributor for Singapore?

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Singapore.

Are ATEX and IECEx markings both understood in Singapore?

Singapore adopts IEC 60079 as SS EN 60079, and both IECEx and ATEX certificates are built on that technical base. Many operators accept either, but an individual refinery or yard may name one scheme in its specification, so confirm with the operator's HSE or instrumentation team.

Do phones and tablets sold in Singapore need IMDA registration?

Cellular mobile devices are generally registered with IMDA under the Simplified Equipment Registration route, which relies on a supplier's declaration of conformity. The registration is valid for five years, and the registering supplier is typically a local entity. Confirm the exact route for a specific model with IMDA or a local compliance adviser.

How does the IS-04Z1 cope with island and boat-access sites such as Bukom?

The design pairs a 4,000 mAh battery with IP68 sealing so the unit lasts through a shift where a spare may be a boat away. Charging stays in a safe area. Test battery life on a typical round and confirm access rules with the island operator.
