The Ministry of Manpower enforces explosive-atmosphere duties under the Workplace Safety and Health Act, while the Singapore Civil Defence Force regulates flammable-materials storage under the Fire Safety Act. Energy and chemicals is Singapore's second-largest manufacturing sector, with more than 100 global chemicals companies operating here, which keeps a steady flow of maintenance and turnaround work in classified areas.
Singapore adopts the IEC 60079 series as SS EN 60079, and area classification drawings are expected for dangerous-goods premises and Major Hazard Installations, so a zone drawing is the starting point for equipment selection.
Land is scarce, so Singapore stores hydrocarbons underground and builds industry on reclaimed ground: Jurong Island was formed by joining seven islands, and storage caverns free up about 150 acres of surface land.
Natural gas now supplies over 90 percent of Singapore's electricity generation, up from under 20 percent in 2000, and the LNG terminal sends out about 9 million tonnes a year as its average capacity.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Singapore. IECEx is the reference scheme for the international operators on Jurong Island, including ExxonMobil, Singapore Refining Company and Aster Chemicals and Energy, and for visiting turnaround contractors. Reviewers would read the certificate of conformity together with its schedule of conditions. The IS-04Z1 IECEx certificate is in progress and, with IMDA registration, is needed before any use.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Singapore. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.

The registration is valid for five years, and the registering supplier is typically a local entity. Confirm the exact route for a specific model with IMDA or a local compliance adviser.
