ENAP: background
ENAP was created by Law No. 9618 on 19 June 1950 to prospect for and exploit oil in Tierra del Fuego and the Strait of Magellan, where deposits had been found between 1945 and 1950.
Aconcagua is linked by pipeline to ENAP's Quintero marine terminal, which has crude and product tanks, pump areas and four moorings, including a single-buoy mooring for Suezmax and VLCC tankers. Through ENAP Refinerias it runs the Aconcagua, Bio Bio and Gregorio refineries, with combined capacity of 238,000 barrels per day, covering all of Chile's refining capacity. Buyers searching for an explosion proof smartphone supplier for ENAP can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An explosion proof smartphone for ENAP cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Chile. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The main sites and the hazardous-area types a portable device is likely to meet at this organisation.
ENAP's website offers a supplier management portal (gestion de proveedores) for joining its vendor community and registering for procurement opportunities. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
ENAP was created by Law No. 9618 on 19 June 1950 to prospect for and exploit oil in Tierra del Fuego and the Strait of Magellan, where deposits had been found between 1945 and 1950.
The three refineries supply over 80% of Chile's fuel needs, so plant shutdowns and maintenance programmes have national importance and are scheduled carefully with contractors.
ENAP lists the main units at its Aconcagua refinery as including topping and vacuum, catalytic cracking, delayed coking, hydrocracking, alkylation, isomerisation, sulphuric acid and sulphur plants, with a flare system and its own emergency response brigade and fire station.
The company is state-owned and based in Las Condes, Santiago, while its original oil exploration area lies far south in Tierra del Fuego and the Strait of Magellan.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In ENAP. In ENAP refineries, 'explosion-proof' is a casual phrase for several concepts. Flameproof Ex d protects fixed motors and enclosures in process units, while intrinsic safety limits the energy of a portable device. A phone used on refinery rounds or at a marine terminal is a handheld, so the IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety.
Supply of the IS-04Z1 to ENAP starts only after certification, through authorised distributors. Until then a buyer can request the datasheet and the written certification schedule, and arrange a safe-area evaluation unit, which puts the site on the list for the right local channel at launch.

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Spanish is the working language in Chile, so user guides, safety data and training are normally expected in Spanish, with English often acceptable for engineering review. Ask ENAP's procurement or safety team which format their approval process requires before submitting material.
Approval is run by ENAP itself, normally through its engineering, HSE and contractor management processes, and relies on recognised explosive-atmosphere certification. There is no public approved list, so confirm the current route and certificates accepted with ENAP's procurement before offering devices.
It can. The Gregorio refinery in Magallanes is colder and windier than central Chile, so battery capacity in cold and glove use matter. Check the device's stated operating temperature range against site conditions. IP68 helps with rain and dust but is not explosion protection. Confirm with ENAP's HSE team.
