ENAP: industry on the ground
Its subsidiary ENAP Refinerias operates three refineries, Aconcagua, Bio Bio and Gregorio, with a combined capacity of about 238,000 barrels a day, which represents all of Chile's refining capacity.
ENAP is Chile's state-owned petroleum company, created by law in 1950 and based in Santiago. ENAP Sipetrol, the international exploration and production subsidiary founded in 1990, has operations in Argentina, Ecuador and Egypt, so equipment standards may differ between Chilean and overseas assets. This page sets out how an ATEX and IECEx mobile phone supply route to ENAP will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An ATEX and IECEx mobile phone for ENAP cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Chile. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

ENAP's website offers a supplier management portal (gestion de proveedores) for joining its vendor community and registering for procurement opportunities. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
Its subsidiary ENAP Refinerias operates three refineries, Aconcagua, Bio Bio and Gregorio, with a combined capacity of about 238,000 barrels a day, which represents all of Chile's refining capacity.
ENAP was created by Law No. 9618 on 19 June 1950 to prospect for and exploit oil in Tierra del Fuego and the Strait of Magellan, where deposits had been found between 1945 and 1950.
Aconcagua is linked by pipeline to ENAP's Quintero marine terminal, which has crude and product tanks, pump areas and four moorings, including a single-buoy mooring for Suezmax and VLCC tankers.
The three refineries supply over 80% of Chile's fuel needs, so plant shutdowns and maintenance programmes have national importance and are scheduled carefully with contractors.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In ENAP. An ENAP reviewer assessing a handset for the Aconcagua, Bio Bio or Gregorio refinery would expect a certificate of conformity, schedule of conditions and legible marking. Dual ATEX and IECEx evidence helps international contractors and EPCs working on Chilean refineries and terminals. The IS-04Z1 certification is in progress and nothing has been issued.
Nothing can be bought for ENAP today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.
ENAP's website offers a supplier management portal (gestion de proveedores) for joining its vendor community and registering for procurement opportunities.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Spanish is the working language in Chile, so user guides, safety data and training are normally expected in Spanish, with English often acceptable for engineering review. Ask ENAP's procurement or safety team which format their approval process requires before submitting material.
Approval is run by ENAP itself, normally through its engineering, HSE and contractor management processes, and relies on recognised explosive-atmosphere certification. There is no public approved list, so confirm the current route and certificates accepted with ENAP's procurement before offering devices.
It can. The Gregorio refinery in Magallanes is colder and windier than central Chile, so battery capacity in cold and glove use matter. Check the device's stated operating temperature range against site conditions. IP68 helps with rain and dust but is not explosion protection. Confirm with ENAP's HSE team.
